I have now stayed at this hotel twice and both times they have knocked it out of the park during my stay. They are very nice at this hotel, they treated us very well and their coffee? Well let's just say it is to die for. Their rooms are also very clean and the place is very quiet compared to other places I have stayed in the past. As always we had the time of our lives yet again in the capital city. There is so much to see in this country but for me, I like the capital because everything is there that I want to do and when I leave the city it is too much like being home. I live in the backwoods country here in TN. and it makes me feel too much like being at home except with palm trees and ocean. I have recommended this man before as a tour guide as he is a safe and trustworthy person. I have seen things in this country that others would absolutely die to see that is well off of the beaten path from any tourist tours thanks to his knowledge of the country. I have tried foods that were safe and very good to include a place called the kitchen. This place is just awesome. This man knows this place very well and will make your stay feel as if you are traveling with a close friend/family member. I have safely traveled this country with him on several occasions and throughout the course of the past 10 years. I recommend calling him before traveling to make sure he is available for your dates of travel. Also it is just common courtesy, well maybe in America it is common to do this not so much in the DR. But his name is Fellini and he is second to none. His number is 829-868-6919 call him and you will make a long term friend who will do almost anything to make sure you, as his customer/friend will have a great time and his knowledge of keeping you and your'e parties safe will be felt throughout your visit in this...
Read moreLet me start by saying that I have never felt so disrespected and mistreated at a hotel as I was here at HOTEL ALCADEZA, mind you by the owner's son so just imagine from there on down how the manegerial hierarchy must function. I am partly to blame because I had a major issue the previous stay but decided to give the owner and his team the benefit of the doubt after taking 20 mins of my time to go over the mistakes and areas where they were lacking severely. Not only was this rewarded by worse service than before but in addition to a disrespectful front desk clerk the kicker was a condescending and rude owner not understading that he is likely more qualified to raise sea horses or crabs than working in anything vaguely resembling customer service and much less the hospitality sector. If you dont mind loud cleaning staff making noise outside your door and multiple representatives knocking at your door well before the stated and agreed upon checkout time then it is perfectly Located on one of the back dark streets a couple blocks from el Malecon where you will have to knock loudly to get back into the hotel if you return later in the evening from your travels around Santo Domingo as the evening shift is a resting shift to sleep and not be disturbed by guests wanting to...
Read moreFirst off, this place has been misidentified on some sites as being in the Zona Colonial, which it definitely is not. It is close to the malecon, about a 30 minute walk to the colonial section. As happened with others our driver in from the airport could not find the hotel, but that turned out to be a good thing as he stopped a guy on the street who happened to be an official tour guide who was amazing and stayed with us throughout the trip. (His name is Luis Polanco, contact me if you need more info). The hotel is in a quiet area and has a nice garden. The problem is the rooms. We had to change 3 different times because the air conditioner would fizzle out each time. Also, they serve only coffee for breakfast. The staff is nice, but they just don't seem to have that much interest in maintaining the place. For what we were paying we could, and eventually did, find much nicer...
