This hotel sits in the SE corner of the Centro Historico of Quito and is located for easy access to all the attractions of the area. The hotel has an unassuming entrance on the Plaza de Santo Domingo (such that my out of town taxi driver could not find it; he phoned the hotel to find that we were parked outside but still did not see it). Entrance to the hotel is up stairs - reception staff kindly carried my suitcase - into an atrium around which the rooms are situated. Only a few look over the street and most open into the sunny atrium. My room was quite large with a comfortable bed and adjacent wardrobe. The ensuite was basic but with everything you need. Note - as with most of Ecuador toilet paper cannot be flushed down the toilet. The reception staff were polite and helpful, supplying maps and advice. The hotel was secure with all guests having to be buzzed in by reception upon entry. The area around the hotel and indeed the whole Centro Historico is well represented by police presence, it seemed on every corner. I was advised by the tourist police not to wander outside this area as it was not considered safe for tourists. Breakfast was fruit, juice, toast, cooked eggs with tea/coffee. This set me up nicely...
Read moreQuito was my first stop in Ecuador. It is also the first stop on my way around the world looking for a place to retire to. Alexander Moreno is a wonderful man and keeps his hotel clean and is always working to improve it. He was very helpful in telling me which areas were fun and safe and which weren't. I greatly appreciated it. He did it in an authentic way because he wasn't pushing certain restaurants or museums. He was just showing me ways to enjoy Quito without getting myself in trouble.||||The rooms are good size, clean and updated. There is a security door at the front entrance. The neighborhood was a little rough but access to downtown Old Town Quito was an easy walk of several blocks. Well, easy if your used to altitude and hills which is Quito. Altitude of 2,800 ft is not easy to get used to after living at sea level for the majority of my life. Casa Moreno offers a free breakfast and free agua. Agua is important at this altitude which includes several stops to catch your breath when climbing the hilly streets. Good food was easy to...
Read moreWe stayed three nights here, at the start of a month's trip to Ecuador. The hotel is characterful and spacious, although could be described as a bit run down in places. Our room was quite large and perfectly nice but lacked an outside window and the bed creaked. The shower was adequate although the flow was a bit weak and hot water took a while to come through to it and the taps. No safe in the room.||Breakfast was quite simple but very nice and served in a dining area with good views of the city. ||The staff were very friendly and helpful with a good sense of customer service (after there was a bit of a mix up over our departure date, Alexander left a very friendly note of apology in our room). ||WiFi was fine.||The location is very convenient for the Old Town, just a few minutes' walk from shops, restaurants, attractions etc and there is a cheap laundry almost next door. ||The hotel arranged our taxi from the airport and this went smoothly.||Overall we felt this was a good option if you want to be close to...
