Hotel Azul De La Plaza is a good hotel, but personally I’m not sure I would go back.
PROS: The service was excellent and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Great location! It’s a 10 min walk away from Parque Calderón. Close to a pharmacy, restaurants and general stores and also a museum of modern art ( free entrance) -Includes a delicious and very filling breakfast that includes: bread, fresh fruit, juice, coffee and scrambled eggs. There was bottled water and the usual hotel toiletries. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean and spacious with a good shower. The water pressure was great and so was the heat.
CONS: Internet was horrible. Half the time it didn’t work. If you were looking to work while staying here…you won’t be able to. Finding a cafe nearby will be a better option. I am a light sleeper so this may not apply to everyone but the room we had, which was facing the plaza, was very very noisy. There is the noise of the guided tour bus that’s come around every couple of hours, the noise of bustling streets, and at night there is loud music coming from the restaurants right in front of the hotel across the plaza. Luckily I brought a some earplugs and the restaurant music died down past midnight. But do keep this in mind when booking a room here. Maybe book a room that doesn’t face the plaza. -The room was a lot smaller than expected but since we only stayed for one night it was not much of an issue. There didn’t seem to be any elevators nor wheelchair access and the rooms start on the 1st floor and up not on the ground floor.
Because I’m such a light sleeper I just couldn’t get the rest that I needed due to the noise. But other than that I would recommend staying here. It’s quite a nice hotel at a good price and it’s in a...
Read moreFirst time in Cuenca, so I wasn't sure what sort of place the Hotel Azul would be. Boy, was I in for a pleasant surprise! Nothing over the top, but all aspects of this cozy place impressed me. The room was spacious and comfortable, with a nice view of the city and strong/ consistent Wi-Fi. The location is great -- a short walk down to the river or quick stroll to the city center (although there are plenty of affordable and tasty restaurants within a stone's throw). But the best part of Hotel Azul was the staff, who went above and beyond to make sure my stay was memorable. Speaking Spanish is helpful but not vital, as everyone was patient with my limited language skills and they were more than comfortable assisting me in English. Coffee and breakfast are available in the morning, and they even have a convenient on-site laundry option that is amazingly affordable. I ended up extending my stay for a few days because I enjoyed it so much. Hotel Azul does everything right -- you won't be disappointed if you stay here during your...
Read moreMain thing was no key is given to you to get into the building so we were told to ring the doorbell. Then we come to find out that the doorbell was not working so we had to knock and most of the time no one was there to open the door. I had to look for a phone number from google and call to open the door. Luckily I had phone service cause I am coming from out of the country but if someone did not have that option they would have been stuck outside for who knows how long. Then they had a card fee if you use a credit card so we had to pay cash which is weird for a hotel, only hotel that had that my whole trip out of 4 hotels I stayed. Also some room things: the sink was pretty clogged up and no black out curtains the sun would just wake you up so early...
