I don’t know where to begin with this hotel. First they claim that they’re 5 starts. Maybe in the 70s. Right now I give them 3 starts maximum. The hotel is super old. The room is old, the ceiling is leashing and everything looks old and worn out. The staff are not nice at the front desk. They will harass you and your friends. I booked 23 days to stay there. I invited a friend to come visit me because it’s my first Time in Ecuador and I was bored. They asked tor their ID which I understand but they do it in a harassing mean way. They even asked me to pay $35 to have a guest over. I explained that the visit is only for 1 hour. They still asked me to pay a fee for having an extra person in the room. I refused to pay and after I raised my voice they told me it was ok. The next day I invited the same friend over and she got harassed again. I told them she’s already registered in the system. They are very pushy and disrespectful. It’s honestly very embarrassing. They also want to make you pay to access the pool. Like I hooked 23 nights and I can’t have a friend or 2 over. They treat you like it’s prison. I’m even considering switching to another hotel or Airbnb because I can’t do the harassment any longer. Awful awful awful. Do not stay here.
The manager promised 35,000 points as an apology and I accepted it but then she never gave me the points. I emailed them several times and called them and they keep ignoring me. They...
Read moreAs a diplomat I spend a lot of time traveling and have racked up platinum statuses with most of the hotel chains, including Starwood, so I feel I have ample experience when it comes to how a guest should be treated at a hotel by hotel staff. My experience in the Guayaquil Sheraton was the worst experience I have ever had at a hotel. I was returning from dinner with my girlfriend when we were acosted by a security person who asked for our room number. When I gave it to him he proceeded to tell us that we had to go to the front desk to register. When I asked why he repeated that I had to go to the front desk. When I went to the front desk I was informed that when I made my reservation it was for one person not two and that when I checked into the hotel I check in alone, and consequently I would have to pay an additional $40 to have my girlfriend stay with me. I found this preposturous! Never have I experienced such a rude reception! I paid the $40 extortion and we went up to our room. About 1 hour later the power went out for about 3 hours. Not having a TV was not the worst thing, but not having air-conditioning made sleeping difficult. This place has a lot to learn about how to...
Read moreThe room we stayed in was very nice. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was beautiful.
Unfortunately, the restaurant closed 30 minutes before the posted hour of closing, leaving us with no choice but to order overly expensive and highly unsatisfactory food from room service.
Also, we inquired about having a small load of laundry cleaned. A person was sent to collect it. We handed it off and it was cleaned for us. The cleaning was satisfactory but the price was not. We were not informed of the pricing for the service and were not asked to fill out the form that was given to us with the returned laundry. The hotel charged outrageous prices for what amounted to 6 t-shirts, 10 pair of socks, and six pair of underwear (one single load of laundry). The price for this was $140 USD.
While I have no problem with paying good money for good services, that price is absolutely ridiculous. I raised my concern with the night manager who told me that 'this is the price'.
Our single load of laundry cost us more than half the price of the room for one night. The price combined with the response from management has left me questioning whether I will ever stay at a...
