Our stay here was wonderful! When we arrived in Guayaquil, we were unlucky enough to get caught in a sudden downpour so heavy that it flooded the sides of the streets in 1-2 inches of water in 15 minutes. Upon our taxi’s arrival at the gates of the hostel, Rodrigo, the owner immediately opened the gates with several umbrellas and assisted us with getting our bags inside. He and his daughter, quickly and efficiently got us checked in and settled amid the downpour. They were very prepared and exhibited much kindness and graciousness, a trend that continued over our 4 day stay. |The room we received had one double and one twin-sized bed. There was an AC unit, excellent lighting, a bedside table and a desk. The room looked exactly like the ones shown in the photos. The building itself was clearly built with an abundance of skill and care and maintained with as much passion and love. The building was spotless, kept immaculately clean. While simple, each room and the accompanying furniture are made to last with excellent craftsmanship down to the smallest details. The hotel provided a paid laundry service, free WiFi, filtered water on each floor, and complimentary breakfast each morning. |The hotel is also located near the Mall de Sol and several restaurants even closer, making food choices incredibly convenient as they were all within a 5 minute walk.|Rodrigo and his daughter also showed extraordinary hospitality and kindness throughout our stay, and I cannot emphasize enough how excellent they are as hosts and general company. They shared their stories of the hotel, Guayaquil, and the Galapagos. They provided excellent tips on navigating the city via cab and went above and beyond to help us reach a wedding located about 40 minutes outside of the city. |Our stay at this charming hotel was excellent and further enhanced by our kind and knowledgeable hosts. It was a very warm and intimate experience that made us want to visit Guayaquil again. I cannot overstate how excellent our stay here was. As they state on their website, it truly felt like a home away from home. 5/5! If I had more stars to give beyond 5 stars, I would! Also, if you’re lucky enough to meet their dog, Cholita, be sure to shower her with all the love because she certainly...
Read moreWe stayed at Hostal Macaw for 2 nights at the beginning and end of our trip to the Galapagos. The best part of our stay in Guayaquil was meeting Fanny, Rodrigo, and their staff! They are truly gems. They helped us navigate the city, coordinate plans with the travel company we used, and helped us learn more about Ecuadorian culture. They are extremely kind people.||The hotel itself was wonderful. The rooms are very spacious, clean, comfortable, and have air conditioning. Filtered water is always provided for you. It’s less than a 10-minute taxi ride to the airport and about a 15-minute ride to Puerto Santa Ana. The hotel is beautifully decorated with plants and murals. Fanny and the staff provided a delicious Ecuadorian breakfast each day, using fruit grown in their own garden. We felt safe in their neighborhood.||My husband and I don’t speak Spanish, but we had no issues navigating the city thanks to Fanny, Rodrigo, and the rest of their staff. They went out of their way to make us feel welcome.||We highly recommend...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed here for an evening during a 9-hr layover between flights. We were returning from the Galapagos to the United States and did not want to spend 9-hrs in the airport. A friend on Santa Cruz recommended Macaw and were very happy with the brief time we were there. We were told that we were the first visitors there since the pandemic began in March. We were greeted with some Tomato Tree juice and showed to a cozy room where we could rest our heads prior to a flight later in the day. ||||We didn't really venture out much because we were primarily there to rest our heads before a long full day of travel, but Rodrigo helped us order some take out pizza for dinner and took some time to show us the garden with various native plants. We had never had cacao nibs before and he even picked a fruit off the tree for us so we could try some. He was very kind and helped us get transportation to and from the airport...just what we needed prior to a red-eye flight and a long next day of...
