Hotel Margarita Inn Alameda — Hotel in Itchimbia

The hotel offers shuttle to and from the airport. We wanted to take advantage of that and arranged to pick us up from the airport. However, no one was waiting for us at the airport exit when we arrived. So we had to see how to get to the hotel. When we finally got there, they apologized for the misunderstanding, but basically you should be able to rely on an areangement like that. The room we got was dirty, cold and it smelled a little bit musty. The next day we went on a city tour and when we came back to our room, all our belongings were gone, and the backpacks from other people were in the room. They changed our room, without telling us. Nogo!!! Nevertheless the new room was a little bit warmer and it didn't smell musty. The WiFis didn't work so well...after changing the access 4 times it was ok. They "cleaned" our room every day (we stayed 4nights), but we had to ask every day for new towels, because they took the used ones and didn't bring new ones. A bit of an unconventional hotel with no lobby. During the day access was through a small store. At night access was through a separate entrance or the garage. The hosts did not speak much English but were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and neat. It is located on the edge of the old Colonial section of Quito within easy walking distance of many of the major tourist sites including the old observatory, the cathedral, the basilica and the central plaza. The San Blas - La Tola area has a choice of modern budget hotels. The location is excellent: close to the old town, and also to all the busses and trolleybus. I think it would be difficult to beat the Margarita Inn as value for money. My room was nice, very clean, hot water.
