Extremely clean, relatively quiet, inexpensive oasis on a hill near the old town. 5 min walk to the Basilico; 15 min walk to Independence Plaza; 10 min walk (steep uphill) to a set of fancier restaurants with amazing views near Itchimbia (eg Cafe Mosaico).
Good public transit nearby, though we walked mostly and took cabs. The photos in Google are accurate and there are fantastic views from the 4th-floor balcony and shared space.
We really appreciated the inexpensive laundry across the street ($0.60 / lb). They clean and dry clothes in about 2 hrs, and deliver back to the hostel while you're out seeing the town!
We stayed here twice as a large family, so we got to experience 5 different rooms. The rooms can be oddly shaped, and many of them have windows overlooking internal features such as the water heaters or the garage. The benefit of those rooms is that they're extremely quiet. The rooms with windows facing the road outside can be a little loud and busy all night, even though it's a one-way small calle; but this could also be a temporary feature, as it's a detour from a main road while they build the subway (due to...
Read moreNot a five star hotel but for a short stop in Quito before a Galapagos trip it is perfect. They arranged a shuttle from the airport for $25 and it was waiting. It is about a 40 minute drive deep into the historic district. La Rosario was very clean, the rooms small but fine for a short stay. My double bedded single including breakfast was under $25. Breakfast was fruit, cheese, croissant and a fried egg with very good coffee. Location is great for visiting the old city. Easy couple of blocks to the main market where pretty much any food is for sale. I tried a fish and shrimp soup - big bowl served with sides of hot sauce, popcorn and other stuff for $2.50 USD. Delicious. The owner of La Rosario is a sweet, teddy-bear of a guy. So if you are looking for a clean, comfortable, safe spot in the historic district at a bargain price with a deck overlooking the city, this is a...
Read moreThis was the best hotel we stayed at during our 2 week trip to the Galapagos, Amazon, and Quito. It is boutique hotel with thoughtful and charming touches. It is spotless clean, and the breakfast (coffee, tea, juice, egg of choosing, ham, yoghurt, granola, bread) is fresh, tasty, and a bargain. The staff was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this hotel! ||(Please note, that I had mistakenly posted this review for Rosario Hostel a few days ago. It should have been for La Rosario, but I don't know how to take that review down. Sorry for any confusion to...
