I'm really not the type that writes reviews, but i had such a bad experience at 'Hotel Cecilia' that in this case i felt a deep obligation to warn my fellow travellers. i've done a lot of travelling in my days, and stayed in many cheap hotels/guesthouses around the world, not all of them top of the line in terms of cleanliness, facilities etc. (to say the least). Given that though, i must say that my night spent at Cecilia Hotel was one of the worst hotel experiences i had in my life, and definitely by far the worst i had in egypt. It started from the beginning. I arrived to a welcome of general bewilderment. Despite booking in advance, it seemed that no one knew who i was and what kind of room did i order. Being that no room was ready for me, they had to hastily prepare one. Besids being dirty, since there was no time to clean it, it turned out that the hastily prepared room i got had a stunning amount of faults to it: the AC wasn't working, the lamb in bath was burnt and had to be replaced, and the toilet itself had a broken flush button that needed to be fixed. To top it all off, the room reeked of a horrid, putrid smell eminating from the walls, something between rotten apples and a dead cat. I thing it's needless to say that a serious hotel is ought to take care of these things --before-- the guest arrives at it's premises. The hotel manager Mira did seem to stress the social atmosphere and the view from the balcony outside (which was indeed beautiful), but after a long day of travel i coudn't care less about that. I just wished for a simple accommodating place to put my things and rest my head, and Cecilia Hotel failed miserably at providing me that. I had a pretty bad night sleep, and in the morning it turned out that the laundry i handed the night before was not ready, despite my firm insistence it should be ready for my 8 o'clock departure and affirming that again and again with the staff, but honestly i can only blame myself for that, taking the word of the way-too-eager-to-please receptionist Ali. To sum it all up, Cecilia Hotel seems to care a lot about creating a 'hip', 'cool' atmosphere, but very little about the actual well-being of it's guests. Granted though, i've only been there one night, in a single private room, and perhaps the other accomodation options, such as the dorms, are better. But my overall experience makes me suspect that is not the case. It left such a bitter taste in my mouth that i felt strongly obliged to warn others. I'm usually the guy to let small mishaps slide, but even for me, this was a bit too...
Read moreWords alone cannot describe the incredible experience we had in Egypt, and it’s all thanks to the amazing staff at Cecilia Hotel. We booked a room online after checking reviews of the best hotels in Cairo, and from the moment we arrived, the staff welcomed us with the warmest hospitality. We asked them for recommendations on how to get around and what to do in Egypt, and they provided us with so many great options. We decided to book a tour directly with them (which is something we don’t usually do), but trust me—they truly know what they’re doing. The tour included a trip to Siwa, where we spent a few unforgettable days exploring breathtaking sights like the Salt Lake, the desert, and the dunes. We went drifting in a Jeep, danced and sang local songs, tried sandboarding on the desert waves, and experienced the incredible hospitality of the locals. Every detail was perfectly arranged by the staff. Back in Cairo, they went above and beyond, offering us a room to rest and shower at no extra cost. We then booked another tour with them to visit the Pyramids, ride camels, and explore Giza, Memphis, carpet factories, and many other fascinating places—all with a local guide who spoke multiple languages. In the evening, we cruised the Nile while enjoying dinner on a boat, and one of the hotel staff even stayed nearby to ensure everything went smoothly. He gave us our space, but of course, we invited him to join us, and we ended up having a fantastic evening together. There’s so much more I could say, but I don’t want to make this too long. What I will say is that these guys deserve a huge thank you. They turned our trip into an unforgettable adventure with their impeccable organization and genuine care. Beyond being hardworking professionals, they are truly wonderful people with big hearts. We came to Egypt as strangers and left with amazing new friends. Wishing them all the best, and I can’t...
