Came here for dinner on a Monday night at 6pm. It’s a great location and easy to get to whether you are staying on Elephantine island or on mainland. Our motorboat driver dropped us off here upon request. They have lots of tables with views of the Nile. We had no wait grabbing one. However because the restaurant was busy, waitstaffs were sometimes hard to get their attention. The food is good and fair priced for the location, ambiance and food offered.
We ordered a hibiscus drink, guava juice, Nubian milk tea with cardamom, camel meat tagine, fried chicken and Nubian desert. The tamarind drink was not available at the time. Our total was 805 EGP for 2 person.
Surprisingly our food came out within 15 minutes of ordering. I was expecting to wait an hour. The hibiscus drink was a bit too sweet for me. The milk tea was good and the guava juice was fresh. You can hear them blending the juices. The camel meat tagine was amazing. It tastes just like beef with no gamey taste at all and it was so tender. My fried chicken was actually a grilled leg of chicken. It didn’t have enough seasoning but the skin was crispy which I liked. The meals also came with a side of potatoes and peas tagine. They also came with a tomato and cucumber salad, which had a very light, to no dressing, bread, seasoned rice and tahina. The Nubian pie for dessert was just ok. It’s like puff pastry layered with sweet milk. It came out piping hot. It was not sweet enough though and could use some spice like cinnamon or cardamom to really take it up a notch.
Their bathroom is clean. They had bug zappers which was nice. They also offer hookah. They take credit cards and I heard their breakfast is also good from...
Read moreAfter nearly a month in Egypt now I can say without doubt that King Jamaica had the most delightful food I've had. The taste of the food was magic, and even the salad and tahina were beyond anything I could have imagined possible! I had the joy to meet the owner on the first night and he has helped me as much as he could given the way I am traveling. I have been coming everyday ever after. What he and the people who're with him have created is a really impressive and wonderful space for anyone to spend time, enjoy, talk together. It is a big space where you can seat in many different sections. A boat service has been arranged especially for the customers of King Jamaica which is so practical but the most important thing here is the level of involvement behind the taste of the food, providing such a great service to the customers, making this place beautiful, practical, pleasant for all kinds of people, groups, families, single people and you won't have anyone asking you for anything at the end. Finally a place where you can just relax, enjoy and know that you can trust the people 200%. I recommend anyone to come and get a taste of what is there because it's a one in a country this kind of gem. I only know one place in Nepal and one place in France where such a beautiful ambiance is also there....
Read moreI have had breakfast here and three dinners. My favourite spot on the island. All food is home cooked, and you can see the family cooking it just behind the restaurant. This does mean that it takes a while to get food (budget 45-60min). The views from the restaurant are breathtaking so the wait isn't bad at all. They have very good WiFi as well, making it a nice spot to do some work while having coffee.
The tagine camel is very unique with a sweet-sour taste and very soft meat that melts in the mouth. I also had beef tagine, this one has a rich tomato base, with a lot of vegetables. I also had fish tagine, this one is very sour, it was my least favourite but was still very good.
Their breakfast consist of 2 mains: fava beans and shakshouka. Both are extremely filling.
All of their dishes come with small salad, tahini, and bread. Their dinners also come with a side of a vegetable of the day.
My favourite item was the nubian coffee, served from 4pm onward, its spiced coffee that is smoked on coal, has very rich unique flavour I haven't had before. Would definitely recommend trying it.
I was slightly disappointed with their sahalb considering how everything else was very good, their sahlab lacked any coconuts or nuts, hopefully they...
