I have not stayed at the Hyatt or used their swimming pool yet but frequent it for food, drinks and events. The food is ok if using the standard menu and quite amazing on special occasions and events. It is worth noting that their ingredients have always been fresh and good quality. The place is clean and the ambience is relaxing. Kudos to the staff, especially check-in, cleaning, event management and security for always having a smile on their faces and a good word or two when you deal with them. I also like the coffee shop at the lobby. They have good coffees and pastries and I almost always have something from here whenever I stop by. The only thing that needs improvement are probably the cookies that are a bit too dry and tasteless.
However, for a 5 star hotel, I find the quality of service quite inconsistent. Sometimes, it is great and other times we have to ask a waiter 5 times to get us a drink and wait up to 45 minutes to get it at the bar. Another funny story is that we moved from the restaurant to the bar and after having a mojito at the restaurant, ask for one at the bar. The barman comes to us after 15-20 minutes to tell us that they don't have mint today. We had to ask the barman to go check with his colleagues at the restaurant since they do have mint, take some from there and use it at the bar. Then they had mint in the bar for our mojito and for everyone else who ordered one after us! I have many more such stories that I unfortunately find commonplace in pretty much all the 5 star hotels in the city. That said, Hyatt is definitely the best amongst the competition but that isn't saying much when I find instances of laziness and apathy here as well.
Finally, this isn't a major issue but another little inconvenient quirk you get used to over time. Whoever designed the underground parking was either not qualified, did not care or was building something else altogether. You cannot drive an average size car into the parking lot without reversing out twice for every turn you make because there are load bearing pillars directly in front of you. Not sure there is any fix for this but it is worth noting that this will take some time and effort especially for beginner and...
Read moreOverall this hotel is good, however, it has some drawbacks. The lighting system is controlled by touchpads that are back-lit during the night which shines a bright light in the room. There is a small analog clock on the nightstand that cannot be seen during the night. The beds have heavy duvet covers and the air conditioning does not go low enough to make it comfortable to sleep under the heavy duvet. There was a problem with the AC in my first room, so I was moved to another after maintenance couldn't fix the issue. Even though it was better in the next room, I still couldn't get the temperature below 19C (67F). On the bright side, the towels are fluffy and the TV is large and has screen mirroring capabilities. The outlets have USB charging ports and universal plugs so you don't need an adapter for dual-voltage devices (like a laptop). There's coffee and tea in the room, but the tea isn't the greatest quality - all the flavors tend to be bitter, even with a short steep. Laundry was returned quickly and folded properly, however, it was expensive! Breakfast buffet was good as well as most of our other meals. All of the restaurants were not yet open, so we our choices were limited. One evening, my colleague was served under-cooked chicken. She realized it right away and the chef brought a new plate and apologized. The conference center was nice overall, but the room had a sewer odor in it that the staff was trying to fix. There was no laptop available to use for our presentation nor a slide clicker-advancer even though it was requested multiple times. Check-in and out were fairly smooth. However, they take your passport out of sight to make a photocopy. It would feel better if they didn't have to take it so far away (who knows where they're taking it or what they're doing with it). Kidist and Bethlehem at reception were very helpful. Everyone walks through a metal detector and bag x-ray upon entering the compound. Overall,...

I recently attended a wedding at the Hyatt Regency Addis Ababa, and it was a spectacular experience from start to finish. As one of Addis Ababa’s premier venues, the hotel exceeded expectations in every way, making the event truly unforgettable.
The event was held in the hotel’s grand ballroom, which was elegantly decorated for the occasion. The high ceilings, crystal chandeliers, and tasteful floral arrangements created a luxurious and magical atmosphere. The layout of the hall allowed ample space for guests to move around comfortably, with a separate area for dining and a well-organized stage for the ceremony and speeches.
The hotel staff were outstanding in their professionalism and attention to detail. From the moment we arrived, the team ensured that every guest felt welcomed and taken care of. Their efficiency was especially notable during the meal service, as dishes were served promptly and tables were attended to throughout the evening.
The food was one of the highlights of the event. The buffet offered an impressive array of options, including traditional Ethiopian dishes and a variety of international cuisines. Every dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious, reflecting the hotel’s commitment to high culinary standards. The desserts, in particular, were a hit, with many guests raving about their rich flavors and artistic presentation.
The outdoor areas of the hotel, including the gardens and terrace, provided breathtaking backdrops for photos and offered a relaxing space for guests to mingle. The combination of lush greenery and stunning city views added a unique charm to the event.
