Dear Marriott Management, First of all, we would like to thank the hotel staff very much. We have been guests here since the beginning of August 2021 and they have always been helpful, friendly, positive, smiling and service-oriented. That's the only reason why we stayed as guests for so long. We changed hotel rooms three times. The built-in heaters in the first room did not work and could not be repaired. We got a portable heater. With every rain water penetrated through the old windows, during the night the cold moved in and the leaks could be repaired by the technical staff. The windows should be replaced urgently. The Wi-Fi signal in the bedroom was far too weak (we didn't connected tv from telephone every time internet) and the IT technician couldn't fix it. Because Wi-Fi system wasn't well. But we managed to ignore all of these problems. About a 10days later we returned from a short vacation and now hoped to get a better room. But the first offer was much too small for two people, there was a lack of cupboards and storage space and there was too much noise from outside so that we had to change rooms again. At the moment we cannot open the bedroom window, but every evening there is so much noise from the courtyard, the pool and the parties that we cannot sleep well. Friends and colleagues also reported the same problems with the high noise level. The pool area should be relocated to the roof. The bed is also much too soft for us to sleep. Despite multiple requests, the mattresses could not be exchanged. Not even harder or orthopedic pillows were possible. The shower cubicle in our bathroom does not close properly, and water is constantly leaking out. WC Sometimes it also gives off a very unpleasant odor. But we never spoke angrily to the staff because they, the technical staff, the receptionists, the cleaning staff tried at all times to do the best they can. What they have got, they gave us...
I am very sorry to write this as the name "Marriott" is known to me and to many others in general for a very good quality and a high standard. Because of this name we gladly stayed here but are currently very disappointed. If I'm walking in from a Marriott sign, of course I want to experience the Marriott vision, mission, standard and quality inside.
If you have stayed at Marriott hotels in other countries, you will agree with me.
We saw so many other hotels, restaurants, pools, and gyms in Etiyopia; not everything has to be changed, just renewed.
Despite all the negatives, there is one big positive point: Exclusive Chef Mr. Brihanu as well as Chef Dawit, Chef Abirham, Hikina, Eyeb and all restaurant and bar staff, Tsega, Azmera: Thank you for the clean preparation of many delicious dinners. With an even bigger and better selection of local Ethiopian and international food, I'm sure the Marriott restaurant will rise to the top in Addis Ababa.
Many thanks to Selamawit, she did a great job cleaning the rooms. Many thanks to Tenaye for making delicious Ethiopian coffee. Many thanks to Chef Brihanu and his staff for a very special birthday evening and the invitation to experience the "Melkam Addis Amet" together! We feel like we are part of a big...
Read moreI've been to Addis maybe a dozen times over the past few years and stayed at the Marriott the last two trips. This is my favorite place because of the exemplary staff and services and the apartment size rooms. Hotel staff at any upscale Addis hotel are excellent, but the Marriott staff are absolutely the best in the city. Everyone at the front desk was more than helpful, as were the drivers, the restaurant staff, everyone. If you're stiff from a long plane ride in economy let Wolny (pronounced wine-ee) or Hana work out the kinks with an hour intense massage for just $20. Biniam will clean of the dirt and put a fresh shine on your shoes. Just ask and Saed or the driver on duty will go out of there way to make sure you get the best coffee to take back with you.
The restaurant is great. I've eaten just about everything the kitchen has to offer and enjoyed it: the fixed price menu of the day is usually very good but everything from salads to vegetarian dishes to the Nile perch to the beef tenderloin is very good. Also I've eaten all of the fresh fruits and vegetables without worry and not gotten sick, unlike at some competing hotels. Ask whichever chef is on duty to cook something in a particular way or let him/her do their own thing--it will be tasty. Room service is available 24/7.
The apartment set up in the hotel is perfect for a longer stay. Apartments include one or two bedrooms, a bathroom (or two), a kitchen, an eating area, and a living room space. There is both a free guest laundry on each floor and hotel provided laundry/dry cleaning services.
No hotel is perfect: my issues with this hotel are that the pricing on the BonVoy website is not transparent, e.g. I bought the breakfast and dinner package for two but my wife was unable to come with me, and management would not honor the second dinner package when I brought in partners for a business dinner (BonVoy issues are partly a problem with Marriott HQ management as well). Management also does not honor the Marriott loyalty program: no room upgrades even for Titanium members (but you do get your points, I think). So I had a nice one bedroom apartment but overlooking the pool with noisy and late pool parties on the weekend -- management knows this is a problem enough to send out email alerts about noise ahead of time but apparently doesn't care enough to actually do anything helpful for their guests except tell us to grin...
Read moreCelebrating New Year’s Eve is an exciting tradition for many people around the world. It is a time of joy, reflection, and spending quality moments with friends and family. Recently, my friends and I decided to welcome the new year by attending a New Year's Eve event at the Marriott Hotel in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We were filled with expectations for a fun and memorable night. However, our experience turned out to be quite different from what we had imagined.
The entrance fee for the event was 6,000 Birr per person, which is approximately 47 USD. As there were four of us, we collectively paid around 24,000 Birr, or 188 USD. This amount is substantial, especially for young adults who often have limited budgets. Therefore, we anticipated a fantastic experience in return for our investment. Upon entering the event room, we were surprised to find only two chairs allowed per table. This restriction meant that we had to split up and sit at different tables, with one of us in front and the others at the back.
After settling down, we placed our orders for food and drinks. We were hopeful that the service would meet our expectations, especially given the amount we had paid. Unfortunately, the situation deteriorated when the staff became rude and unhelpful. They informed us that they wanted to give our table to other customers, which felt disrespectful and inconsiderate. It was disheartening to be treated this way, especially on a special occasion meant for celebration.
Feeling frustrated by the staff's attitude and the overall treatment we received, we made the difficult decision to leave early. Our night, which was supposed to be a joyous celebration, ended up being a disappointing experience. It was a reminder that sometimes, even when we invest money expecting value, the overall experience can be greatly influenced by customer service.
It is our hope that future guests will have better experiences, as everyone deserves to celebrate special occasions joyfully and without...
