Union Cocktail Bar & Restaurant — Restaurant in Addis Ababa

I'm beyond disappointed by the way how everything was handled in this restaurant yesterday. My friend and I were planning to have a drink and enjoy the view of Addis. Upon arrival, we had to ask multiple times for service and once we did it takes more than 15 minutes to get our drinks. After seating 2 hours and enjoying the view we ask for a cocktail menu and, order the old fashion and, I ask for to be used a Maker's Mark or Jack Daniel which test much better than the house. The drink comes back horrible so I decided to change to beer. we knew this place was not the right place for us so we decide to go to another restaurant for a better service and drink so we ask for the check. In our check the old fashion was added to our bill which was crazy so, your service told us he can't remove it. Pls know this is not the service falt we know he did the best he could to accommodate us. We ask for managers on duty and they told us they were in the meetings, we ask for the cashier and she didn't even want to come and speak with us so at that moment we all were frustrated so we paid our bill which was about $760 birr and left. Pls train your managers when there is an issue, they need to come out and solve the problem because when losing one customer like me...

I ordered the chocolate cake from this restaurant, and honestly, it was a huge disappointment. The cream on the cake was completely frozen—as if it had been sitting in the freezer for days. It wasn’t soft, smooth, or fresh like proper cake cream should be; biting into it was more like biting into a block of ice.

The cake was served with cocoa syrup, but unfortunately, that didn’t save it. The syrup felt icy and unnatural, not rich and velvety like it should be. The ingredients clearly weren’t handled properly—the cream and cocoa topping should have been fresh and at the right temperature, not rock solid.

On top of that, the atmosphere was unbearable. They were playing two completely different tracks at the same time—one inside, one outside. The space isn’t large, so the music collided into a chaotic, loud mess, making it nearly impossible to have a conversation. It’s not that you can’t hear the music and enjoy it; it’s that the way it was played was jarring, distracting, and just plain disturbing.

For a chocolate cake experience, you expect soft, moist cake, fresh creamy frosting, and a pleasant environment. Instead, this visit was a mix of frozen dessert and auditory chaos. I wouldn’t recommend it if you want a calm, enjoyable...

The last time I visited was about 3 years ago for business lunch in a group. It was truly disappointing to see the service had deteriorated since then. I was willing to excuse difficulty getting servers' attention because of a busy night ahead for new year's eve. But the part that really annoyed me is when they rudely started to set the table I was sitting at for a different customer. When I asked why this was being done I was told it is a reserved table, which was not the case when i was seated there for a while waiting on the meal I ordered to be served and had the meal. There was also no "reserved" sign when I sat at that table. Because of this rude treatment, I left without making plans with the establishment to host a birthday event in the coming week. Good service is important....
