Yes!|Value rating based on price paid: Yes! ||The Details:||Hotel Design Location and Layout:||Location (10/10 – Exceeded Expectations) – This rating applies to a specific scenario which is being near the airport/train. It's not a hotel to use to base a visit to Paris for example. With that in mind, you cannot beat the location. The hotel entrance is located between terminals 2E and 2F just above the Gare and right next to the CDGVal shuttle train, making it less than 10 min access to the furthest terminals, as well as quick access to RER and TGV right outside the entrance. For pre-departure or post arrival stays you cannot do better.||Hotel Lobby/Common Areas(8/10 – Met Expectations) – Nice lobby with easy access to dining and bar. The hotel is designed to evoke an ocean liner, with an ellipsoid shape and some nautical touches. Rooms at the far end are a bit far from the elevators, if moving luggage is an issue ask for closer room or help. ||Hotel Amenities(8/10 – Met expectations) – Small but perfectly adequate gym located on 2nd level. No pool. 2 dining venues and one bar. Drive up access available but no parking.||Room:||Design and Layout (8/10 – Met expectations) – Nothing fancy but plenty of storage. Expectations take into account a number of factors, such as price paid, brand, and location. They will vary greatly from the Waldorf Astoria to a Super 8. All scores are averaged and translated to a score out of 10. 1 Trip Advisor dot applies for each 2 points, so 4 dots is the most...
Read moreI wish there were another hotel in the terminals at CDG, but there isn't. I've stayed here on 3-4 business trips over the past year or so, mainly because it's connected to the terminals at CDG. For an airport hotel, it's very expensive, but I've learned that I'm paying for the convenience-- definitely not the service.
The rooms are fine. Even though they are small, the rooms are clean and in good shape and the beds are comfortable. Slippers and bath robes are nice and there are plenty of towels. Good electrical outlets and a nice TV are also in the rooms. The walls are thin, especially if there's a connecting room door, so one can hear the TVs in the neighboring rooms. Doors to rooms close loudly.
The check-in staff usually has an unaccomodating attitude towards its guests-- in fact, it's even a bit condescending. They gave me a room with exterior lights shining into the room and with curtains that were too thin and short to cover the light. When I asked for a different room, the front desk clerk lied and told me there was no other room. However, when I persisted and argued for a while, they found a room for me on the Club Floor, but, in an act of pettiness or spite (or both), they didn't give me access to the Club Lounge. They could have turned a negative into a positive by simplying giving me that access, but they don't seem to do anything extra for their guests. I noticed other people complaining about their accomodations and being given the run around over obtaining replacement rooms (which the front desk staff ultimately did for these other guests after first giving them the same uncoopertive attitude afforded to me). It's almost as though the manager programs the staff to deny customer requests as a front line of defense and then to relent if things get too loud.
On a different trip, I accidentally booked a smoking room and, when I arrived at the hotel and requested a non-smoking room, they insisted on charging me a much higher rate for the non-smoking room. Whenever I request an early check-in (because I'm arriving on a morning flight and would like to shower and change), they want to charge 250 Euros for the honor, despite the fact that I'm a repeat and SPG guest.
The concierge was, on the other hand, very helpful when my taxi driver couldn't process my credit card in his cab and she immediately had him paid by the hotel, with the amount then being appropriately charged to my room. This was greatly appreciated and is part of the reason why I never I didn't give the hotel a lower rating.
Bottom line: Great location for a flight, decent rooms,...
Read moreI ALWAYS stay at the CDG Sheraton the night before I leave CDG for the US. ALWAYS! it is my favorite hotel...ever. I think there are a couple of things that strongly appeal to me about the hotel. Besides the standard...it is 3 minutes from my flight check-in or train track (which it is and that is great!), there are other strong points.
First and most obvious is the "quiet"...walk down the corridors and you can hardly hear a thing. When I come to the Sheraton I am exhausted after working 1 or 2 or sometimes even 3 weeks in Europe. I need to be able to relax. The quiet helps me. And the beds are quite comfortable as well...I sleep like a baby there.
But I have to say one of the best experiences I have is that "almost home" feeling...like I have one foot in France and one in the US. The Sheraton rooms are good sized and well appointed. Very clean, great design and feel familiar to this American. How great is it to have a full standing shower after a few weeks of trying not to sprinkle the whole bathroom with water in the local hotels with the half tub enclosures.
I booked rooms for a recent family vacation (last night in Europe before heading home) just so my family could experience what I love about the Sheraton CDG.
A couple of other comments...no place is perfect and even my love for the Sheraton doesn't blind me to a few things that need attention.
First of all the water pressure needs to be fixed...that whole hot/cold shower thing isn't relaxing or comfortable. An expensive proposition for the hotel to fix its plumbing but it is time and it must be done.
Secondly...the food in the restaurant is really quite "ordinary" for such a special place. When I first started going there (about 12- 13 years ago) the food was great. Plus room service offered a pizza which was super for this American after a week of eating rich French foods out every night. But I took my family to the restaurant, Les Saisons. We spent a lot of money to eat there and the food just wasn't up to the quality of everything else. Lately when I have stayed there for work travel I have been getting a sandwich at the Paul kiosk outside of the Sheraton and have been more satisfied with that than the Sheraton dining. I know Sheraton CDG can make some improvements there.
All that said about dining however...you just can't beat the Breakfast. I vote Sheraton CDG as the Best Hotel Breakfast not in a...
