We spent 4 nights at the Renaissance Republique around the December holidays.|| - The location is great, steps from several metro lines, close to multiple shops and restaurants and a pleasant 15m walk to Le Marais. It worked out very well for us as a base to explore Paris as it is very close to most attractions, with good eateries nearby and yet in a fairly quiet part of town.| - Service was good. The receptionist was very nice and helpful and had our rooms ready early. We got restaurant recommendations from the concierge a couple times, and they were spot on. The staff at breakfast was nice as well.| - The hotel has nice, modern and tastefully decorated common areas and hallways.| - We had two communicating rooms, a queen for the parents and a double for the kids. Our rooms were beautiful and well appointed. The beds were very comfortable, the table and chair sturdy and the several closets and shelves very convenient. The bathrooms were nice and pleasant to use as well. We enjoyed the Nespresso machine and the good tea. Our rooms were on the first floor on the courtyard side, so we didn't have any particular view, but at least it was very quiet.| - We enjoyed breakfast every morning, with a small but high-quality buffet and made-to-order eggs and pancakes.| - The whole place was very clean and well maintained.||All in all, we had a good stay, though I will say this property failed to wow me the way others have. There were several little things that individually were no big deal but altogether took away from the supposed five-star experience. The service at breakfast was generally good, though one morning our waiter was very clumsy repeatedly dropping things and he forgot our coffee order. The made-to-order scrambled eggs ranged from great to very dry depending on the cook. Check-in took over 20 minutes because of some issue processing the deposit and while the receptionist was nice and apologetic about it, they didn't really give us any other option than wait the entire time with over-tired and excited kids. One day housekeeping forgot to reprovision coffee pods and tea bags and change coffee cups in our rooms. The TV's had an "Internet TV" option, which didn't work, so we couldn't use Netflix or anything like that. As pointed out above our rooms were nice, though standard -- no bathtub, no sofa or not even a Bluetooth speaker. I guess upgrades are even harder to get when requesting communicating rooms (Bonvoy elite). So again, nothing major but for the price and the supposed standing of this hotel I expected slightly better. Then again Paris being an expensive hotel market I suppose this property is decently priced. There are so many great luxury hotels in Paris, though, I will seek a more exciting property next time, be it a bit...

Read moreBeing a Marriott loyalist, I shouldn't have a hard time finding a nice property for a decent price is Paris...right? Well, that was harder than expected and I'm happy I found the Renaissance Paris Republique hotel!
For starters, I traveled in from another European location during the strikes. I took a taxi from the airport, which is supposed to be a flat fee...I followed the directions on CDG's website to ensure I got a registered taxi. Well, I get to the hotel and the guy tries to charge me the meter price...30€ more than expected. The hotel security and concierge quickly stepped in to handle the situation...it didn't end exactly as it should have, but it did end much better than if I were by myself.
A warm greeting by reception and before I arrived the concierge had reached out to see if there was anything I needed. I had them make a dinner reservation at Le Rigmarole and asked for a recommendation for a spot to grab and drink and some oysters after. No issues with the reservation and the recommendation for oysters (ISTR) was a great spot. Sometimes concierges can give mediocre recommendations...I didn't feel like that was the case here.
I opted for free breakfast and points for my stay. Luggage was brought to my room and I was even given a tour of the room so I knew how to use everything. I've never had that kind of service at a Marriott property or any other property for that matter! Very impressive!
The room was gorgeous and one of the best rooms I've stayed in. I was shocked by the design and appointment...smart, thoughtful, and functional. Although, I still find it odd to have some many mini-bar items in the room for purchase...I've only seen this at another Renaissance property in Paris. It would have been nice to have had fewer items and have them for free since there isn't an M Club at this property...the Le Meridien in Vienna restocked my mini-bar for free and gave me free breakfast.
The building itself is much larger than it appears to be. And it is just a beautiful property...I wish I could have stayed longer. One negative, I had a hard time finding the fitness area from my room...it didn't immediately click that I needed to take the elevator, I thought it was on my floor. I didn't get to use the spa, but it looked heavenly.
Breakfast was superb, as is usually the norm at European Marriott locations. Why can't we have this level of quality at US locations (cough, Marriott if you're reading this)?
Overall, I was thoroughly impressed by this property. Professional and courteous staff, great looks, and it gave you the feeling like you didn't need to leave. Rarely does a hotel do that at such a value. The people who run this property, and those that help run it, should be proud of what...
