Booked a weekend stay at this hotel to visit friends in Paris. I will never stay here again and recommend everyone else stay away. Very hostile and rude receptionist.
Invited a friend to come meet me at the hotel so we can head out for the night. I gave him my room number and also told him I’ll meet him downstairs when he arrives. My friend arrives, I come downstairs to greet him and the reception working on the night of 10/26/2024 calls me over and demands that my guest gives him an ID before he is allowed to go up to my room.
I was completely confused why this was necessary given that my friend was just a guest and I was physically there to retrieve him. The hotel has my ID on file, my friend wasn’t staying over night. Also, I encountered other hotel guests who invited friends over without being confronted by the front desk. I saw this while waiting for elevator. I am not sure why me and my guest were targeted.
The reception, who refused to give me his name btw, tells me that my friend must provide an ID. I have stayed at many hotels and have had guests visit me and never have they had to provide their ID. Especially when I’m physically there to confirm that they are my guest.
The receptionist claims that my friend tried to impersonate being me by telling him my name and room number. My friend said that was not true and that the receptionist had asked him for MY name and room number so he gave it to him. At this point I thought ok this is probably just a miscommunication, and I am here now, can we just move on? Also it doesn’t make sense that my friend would try to pretend to be me.
The receptionist refused and continues to demand an ID from my friend. My friend starts to feel discriminated against and very uncomfortable by the way the receptionist was treating him so he leaves the hotel as he was getting really upset.
I continue to speak to the receptionist about the situation. However, he kept cutting me off and refused to answer my questions. I asked him repeatedly what is the hotel’s policy regarding guests. He ignored the question 5 times until finally he said “Hotel guest visitors’ do not have to show an ID. But your guest must show an ID. We’re doing it for your protection.” I was completely baffled by this response. You’re protecting me from my friend who I invited over?!
I don’t get what the receptionists problem is and why he felt necessary to treat me and my guest so poorly. This is the first time I even met the receptionist. However, this encounter completely ruined my experience here. He didn’t even apologize. Sadly this is the type of people this...

Read moreI had booked 2 nights stay at Hotel Mareuil for my wife and I but at the last minute I had to bring our 14 month old daughter. I forgot to inform the hotel assuming it would not be a problem but that was a mistake – French law dictates a certain sized room is required depending on the number of people staying and that includes infants.
The hotel couldn’t be nicer – they upgraded us to the family room on the 6th floor and offered the upgrade at half price. Great way to start our sightseeing in Paris. The location of the hotel is excellent – just a few minutes from Republique metro which has multiple metro lines including the number 9 which will take you straight to Trocadero and the Eifel tower, number 8 to Concorde and the Champs Elysees and number 5 to Gare Du Nord. It is also a 10 minute walk from the Bataclan if you want to take a pilgrimage to that site.
The hotel is very tastefully decorated in a modern style and the room we had was reasonably spacious for Paris. It was spotlessly clean and the en-suite bathroom was excellent in terms of cleanliness and style. The shower was thoroughly enjoyable and the toiletries provided were of excellent quality. A special mention should also go to the excellent coffee machine and coffee/tea that came free with the room – best in room coffee I have ever tasted. Our room also came with a balcony which I thoroughly enjoyed and have attached a picture of the view.
If you wanted a cooked breakfast and are a vegetarian then you are limited to scrambled eggs but otherwise there were fresh croissant, good quality bread, cheeses, cold meats and various other items on the menu. My favourite item was the juicer which I used each morning to make fresh orange juice for myself and my wife.
The staff are all super friendly and because the hotel is small you get very personal customer service. Although the hotel is expanding I hope the friendliness of the staff and their warm assistance will remain. As an example on the day of the checkout our passports were stolen meaning we couldn’t leave Paris. The hotel very kindly sorted out a room for us at the last moment and gave us a reasonable rate. Alexis at reception was very comforting as we were rather distressed and offered any assistance.
Despite this unfortunate incident I will be back in Paris one day and when I do it will be to stay at...
