Staying at this hotel was meant to be the highlight of our four week long Europe trip because we booked and paid for the tower room with Supposedly the best Eiffel views along with the best service, etc, but we were very disappointed. We booked to stay for two nights. We arrived at the hotel at around 5pm after a delayed flight walked up to the reception desk and waited. The two ladies behind the counter were talking when we walked in, they saw us, made eye contact, I said hello and nothing, then looked at each other and continued talking. After about a few minutes of waiting one of them looks up and asks, ‘checking in?’ and then took their time to check us in while chatting among themselves in French. It felt very very impersonal. We walked into the room assigned to us and it was room 35, with the view of the top of the Eiffel, which was DISAPPOINTING because there are a few other rooms on the top floor (4th and 5th) that have way better views than the ‘tower room’ on the 3rd floor. I went down to reception to ask for the room to be changed and again, I walked up to the desk and again the two women at the desk look at me and then continue chatting and ignore me, until I say hello. The conversation continued to be nothing short of rude, the blonde woman with glasses was short and said ‘we can’t help you, everyone comes to Paris to celebrate a special occasion’ amongst other things that left me stumped!! She finally agreed to give us room 55 for one night and made it look like a huge favour because (her words) ‘the other person booked in February and you booked in March’. My husband went back down later to ask if we could get a room upstairs for two nights and he came back very upset because of the same interaction; 1. Being ignored 2. Talked rudely to 3. Made it look like we didn’t deserve the good rooms.

Finally we got moved to 55 for the same night and then moved back to room 35 the day after.

Room 55 does have good views and it was obvious the rooms beside it have great views too. But they are tiny. They price tag is hefty but cheaper than the 4 and 5 stars with Eiffel views in the area, so the price at this property is just for the view with basic amenities.

All in all the interaction with the women at reception ruined our stay, we were uncomfortable and on edge and couldn’t wait to leave.

Thank you reception ladies for making our trip ‘not so special after all’ (especially the blonde woman with glasses).

We will definitely not be returning to...

We liked the Hotel Duquesne for the location and staff. Otherwise, the rooms were very small and difficult to manoeuvre (I highly recommend you book several months in advance for one of the larger rooms). You will also hear the noise of toilets flushing and water running down the walls all night (at first we thought there were rats in the walls!)

We had booked a courtyard view but got the top of a dirty roof directly out our window instead. Also, the carpet throughout the hotel and in the rooms were definitely due for a steam cleaning or complete removal - they were very dirty leaving a pair of white socks with filthy stains. The safe in the room was very small and required a skeleton key we had to carry everywhere (unlike modern hotel safes with digital combinations). Also, when we first arrived in our room, there was a horrible smell coming from the toilet. There is a toilet brush sitting in the bathroom for a reason - when we scrubbed around the toilet, chunks of feces dropped into the bowl - clearly the toilets are not well cleaned - disgusting.

As mentioned, service and location were good, you are in the middle of many monuments and tourist attractions such as Napoleon's Tomb and the Eiffel Tower. My wife and I walked the city for hours each day to see other attractions such as the Catacombs.

The water pressure was good in the tiny shower (large people will not fit!) and the morning breakfasts were excellent.

In summary, we wouldn't stay here again. We liked the breakfast and staff, but the rooms were far too small and dirty for our liking. Also, a courtyard view that looks out onto a dirty roof was laughable.

Good for the value conscious but not clean or comfortable enough for us. Thanks to the staff who worked the front desk and breakfast restaurant, you were very...

Very displeased. First, the location…not bad at all, just not as close to the ET as indicated on all literature. 10 minute walk? More like 25 minutes. But that wasn’t the end of the world. It was a nice pleasant walk to numerous places from the hotel. The customer service was really good. Always very helpful and friendly. Our issue was the room. We knew the rooms were going to be small. We also knew that this was an old French building, so we fully expected a lot of antiques and nostalgia. What we didn’t expect was not just old carpet, but possibly original carpet that was filthy. I don’t think they vacuum very often, nor do they clean carpets regularly. We travel with our own sheets…thank goodness because there were a few hairs in our bed. The sheets were crisp white, but we just couldn’t get past the hairs on them. The bathroom was spotless, I will admit that. Very clean. But the thick cobwebs on the bathroom ceiling. Inexcusable. We couldn’t understand the half shower door. We had to cover darn near everything with towels. A half shower door??? Made no sense. With that being said the shower pressure and heat…amazing. That’s about the only thing invigorating about the room. Taking a shower. Always nice. When we left each day, we had to leave a window open, otherwise the odor that we’d come back to wasn’t very pleasant. Old, dank and musty. The mattress was hard. Very hard. My hips and back could barely take it at night. I think the old building and the nostalgia was a nice French touch, but just because something is old doesn’t mean is shouldn’t be cleaned and updated as needed. We made the best of it, I mean we were in Paris, but all in all, the accommodations really need a lot of work....

I can’t imagine this hotel has a 4star review. Half a year ago I was planning my birthday trip for Paris. I wanted to book in two special hotels where I could have te most amazing view. Nonetheless the room that I thought I had booked was not the room that was given to me. Six month ago when I wanted to book, I made a call to the hotel to be sure I was booking the exact room that I saw on the picture on the website. The worker of the hotel told me that the room on the picture was still available but that I had to book on time because the room with the balcony (exact words were: TOP FLOOR) is booked quickly. So that same day, I decided to make the payment and reservation done. First days in Paris were amazing, I really thought this birthday trip was a 10/10 but when I got to this hotel (Hotel Duquesne) things went bad. I got the room on the 3rd floor, (room 35) and there was NO eiffeltower view (only the top of the eiffel but nothing special), the floor was filthy, bathroom had mold and I was so so dissapointed. When I askes the staff how this was possible and said that this room was not 700+ euro worth it, they told me that this was the premium room that I have booked and that they can never garantuee you the top floor room. So “long” story short: if you want to stay here for the view, don’t do it. You have to be “lucky” to get to have the room on the 5th floor even though the prices of the premium rooms are the same. Don’t expect them to help you with the luggage because they don’t. Also, if you are looking for a hygienic hotel this is also not the one.

First time in Paris. The only bonus point of the hotel is -it is walking distance from Eiffel tower and centre. But if you can handle 15 min on Metro for a couple of euros, you can find much better value(at a third of the price). I rang the night before to see if the area was safe to travel to and whether I would be able to find a restaurant in the evening (police weren't letting anyone in the area the night before). The guy said that the situation changes every half an hour and hung up on me. Price stated on website will change once you get to book. They have some renovations going on, so I had a building site for a view for 180 euros per night (no reduction in price suggested). Bathroom was mouldy, carpet dirty, I could hear people upstairs using the toilet and closing the toilet lid.See my pictures. Everything is extra. Sorry, but I stayed in two other hotels in Paris - much better value. Oh, and the much advertised view of Eiffel tower - you have to request it, otherwise, building site it was. On plus side: you can leave your suitcase there earlier than checkout, and I found a restaurant with amazing food and service just 5 min walk away + turn into one of the side streets you will find an array of bakeries, bed was nice (it was a small European double, so diet if you are planning to sleep like a star).
