Keep in mind the front of the shop says “Coffee Shop & Eatery”. Maybe things are different here, but most countries I’ve been to, a coffee shop means you order at the register and bring your food to the table.
Nowhere did it say “table service only”, nor did anyone greet or sit us. The “hostess” was at the back near the register. So naturally, I walked to the back, smiled, and began placing my order.
You would have thought I stabbed her first born child or something, when her face contorted to a look of utter horror and disgust, she stepped back and immediately began berating me, “you didn’t even sit down and you’re starting to order food? Are you kidding me?!” etc. etc.
Ironically, I did NOT want to be rude, as when we initially sat down, nobody came to the table, and it seemed not to be a table service place, so I didn’t want give off the demanding “entitled american tourist” attitude.
I get it, if this were some dingy local dive bar where there are unspoken rules. But to be treated like a second class citizen, especially in front of my family, is truly unacceptable.
Fortunately, another customer in Zia, who overheard the commotion, suggested Café des officiers around the corner.
Instead of paying for overpriced 20 euro pancakes, I had the most incredible duck confit of my life! And they were not only exceptionally respectful and professional, but we left with our humanity intact.
While I can’t speak for the quality of food, as it seems the food is great based on other reviews. A shame really. But I will certainly not...
Read moreDiscovered this gem on our last day in Paris, but wish we had found it sooner. Who knew the best breakfast burrito I ever had would be in Paris?
We were able to snag the last table during peak breakfast time and took full advantage of the awesome breakfast offering. For €25 you get coffee (hot or cold), juice, Greek yogurt & granola, and your choice of breakfast entree. It’s a screamin’ deal.
The burrito was very big. I opted for bacon (perfectly cooked and flavorful). The burrito was perfectly wrapped, the eggs and beans were excellent, and it came with a generous layer of guacamole on top. The owner/chef imports his chiles from New Mexico (I think he’s from there?) and the hot sauce really makes the dish.
The vibe inside was perfect for a Saturday morning. Bright, cozy, awesome decor, and great music.
Can’t wait to visit Paris again so we can come...
Read moreSmall but doable! We walked in and were able to be seated right away. Three of us. The owner is from New Mexico but has been here in Paris for 12 years. We ordered American coffees. Lemon cake & the Baby pancakes that had pears on them omg so goodt! Food came out immediately! So friendly & great atmosphere! Had american music playing lightly. Abocado toast was amazing also. The american coffee was good but a bit too strong for me as l am not a big coffee drinker. The French use milk instead of creamer for their coffee which was another difference I noticed in Paris not just here. The restataunt was full but as I said we were seated immediately. I would not recommend for big parties (anything 5 or more). Mostly tables of 2 but two tables of 4 were available and possibly can squeeze 6 into the one table of 2 & 4 that were next...
