Stay here if you want to deal with bugs and vermin!
This place is definitely not a 4 star hotel as they claim. Seemed relatively nice in photos, but it is actually quite dirty in person.
After a nice day out on the town, we were shocked to discover HUNDREDS of FLIES in our hotel room late in the evening. Mind you, we did not have any food in the room or open the windows.
Immediately I went downstairs to troubleshoot with front desk, and he seemingly did not believe me. Even worse, he ACCUSED me that I brought the flies into the room. He never apologized for the issue or offered to resolve the situation with an upgrade, even after he saw the infestation. I wish I were making this up, but he handed me a can of insect spray to bring to the room (LOL). It was an extremely puzzling interaction, maybe he thought it was only a couple of bugs. He then told me the hotel was fully booked and it was hard to put me up in another room.
Fast froward -- he came with me to the room and after seeing how bad the situation was, that night, we were given a smaller room on the 1st floor in response. That room still had evidence of a couple smushed flies on the ceiling, and had this shoddy bathroom sliding door that didn't even close properly.
Between the horrible customer service and the bug infestation (when Paris has a city-wide bedbug outbreak), we decided not to chance it and booked another hotel.
We asked for a refund for the remainder of our stay -- 3 full additional nights. Initially they declined my refund, but after significant protest only offered to refund me 2 out of 3 nights! We gave them ample time that we were checking out early -- discussing with front desk well before 10AM checkout time. But they refused to refund me for the one night even though I did not end up staying and there was a clear issue with the hotel.
I wanted to speak to be manager, however they refused to talk to me and left the front desk person out to dry. They only directed them on the phone, and even would not talk to me over the phone despite my offering. Unbelievable customer service right there!
All in all, this place is definitely not a 4 star hotel. I don't know how it received that designation. Not sure how they justified my rate of 250+ Euros a night for this place. Sticking to a name brand 3 star place would honestly be a safer bet! At the very minimum, you won't run into a bug infestation.
Last but not least, I never received my security deposit back of 100 Euros! I checked out 1 week ago and still trying...
Read moreI stayed at the Hotel Phileas Lazare for a business trip. Four days / three nights, no breakfast option. It is located right next to the Gare St. Lazare and multiple Metro Stops, so it is very convenient for access throughout the city. In fact, to avoid the cabbies at CDG I took the RER-B line to Châtelet-Les-Halles, walked a short distance to the Châtelet Metro stop, and took three stops to the Gare St. Lazare Metro, and the hotel is less than a five minute walk.
There are multiple restaurants located within a short walking distance, and the hotel is fantastically located close to the shopping district (Printemps / Galeries Lafayette / etc), the Palais Garnier, and a 10 - 15 minute walk to the Louvre and surrounding areas. Of course access to these points of interest is super easy via the Metro too!
The hotel itself has six floors including the ground floor. Even though it is next to the station, it is very quiet - no police sirens in the middle of the night - clean, comfortable bed, and a nice working area. The bathroom is also quite nice and having both a jet and rain shower head are very refreshing after a long flight or day on business.
The hotel has free wifi for guests and it worked quite well. No interruptions with some streaming; the staff are all kind, polite and speak excellent English which I was grateful for as a non-French speaker. If any quibbles, the amenities don't come with moisturizing lotion (a necessity in winter months) and the walls were a bit thin - I could hear the, umm, creaking of the bed coming from my neighbor's room. Still, an overall great stay; would...
Read moreI stayed here for 7 nights and overall had a very good experience at this boutique hotel. The location is excellent—just steps from the train station—which made navigating Paris very convenient. The pricing was reasonable, and breakfast each morning was satisfying, with attentive service.
A particular highlight was the young Spanish gentleman who managed the breakfast shift. He was consistently superb—polite, proactive, and genuinely helpful—which made the mornings a pleasure.
That said, there are areas for improvement. Communication between teams after shift changes could be more seamless, particularly regarding important luxury item deliveries; the evening staff often seemed unaware of what had been arranged earlier in the day. Additionally, while many staff members were professional and knowledgeable, the hotel employs a number of interns, and a few lacked the same level of training and polish as the rest of the team.
There was also an unfortunate issue with an infestation in my original room. At first, my concerns were met with some hesitation—even though I am a dermatologist and could confidently identify the problem. However, once acknowledged, management quickly upgraded me to another room, which I appreciated.
Overall, this is a charming boutique hotel with a lot to offer: a great location, reasonable pricing, and a standout breakfast service. With a bit more consistency in communication and training, it could easily rise to a solid...
