We stayed here for a few days in April for vacation in Paris. I have good things and I have bad things to say about this hotel. The good things include the front desk staff being very friendly and helpful. The bad things about our stay include: the elevator kept malfunctioning during our stay and we were on the fourth floor. Going up a narrow winding staircase four flights with all our luggage was not pleasant. The elevator was also so small that you can only fit one person and their luggage at a time. Also the location was near several restaurants which was good and bad in itself. Walking to stuff was convenient, however people stay out so late at night there and we could hear people outside our window at 2am and it kept us up. Being on the fourth floor we did have a very nice view, however the room was super small. We walked into the room and literally the whole room was filled up with the just the bed. That bathroom was also very small. I was traveling with my friend and it was very cramped for just two people. Would not recommend for a family. The room we booked was for two single beds, which ended up being kind of pushed together to end up making a sort of full sized bed. There was also not very good ventilation in the bathroom and when we used the shower it made the whole room very hot and humid. It was overall ok for the price we got for the room, and thankfully we did not really spend much time in the room because you could barely move around in there. The location of the hotel was out of the way from a main road too. If you want to get dropped off by Uber or taxi, they will have to drop you off a couple blocks from the hotel because the road in front of the hotel was closed. If I was ever to come back to Paris I would probably try to stay somewhere with a...
Read moreIn early May, I stayed for 3 nights at Hotel Apolonia Mouffetard on rue Mouffetard in Paris. I had booked a single room. On arrival, I was offered a complimentary upgrade to a double room which I appreciated very much.
My room was on the 5th floor and had a lovely view of Paris rooftops and the dome of the Panthéon. The elevator to reach my room was reliable and spacious.
My room (#59) was quiet, clean and well appointed with a comfortable double bed with 4 pillows, lots of lighting options, a TV, a small fridge, safe, closet, and a coffee/tea making station. The bathroom had generous counter space and a good supply of towels and toiletries.
I had breakfast in the main floor dining room one morning and everything was delicious. There were eggs, bacon, fruits, juice, coffee and plenty of pastry and bread options.
The location of this hotel is ideal on the pedestrian street rue Mouffetard. There are many reasonably priced shopping and dining options along this street. The Luxembourg RER stop is within a 15 minute walk, and the nearest Metro station is at Place Monge, only 3 minutes away by foot. Place de la Contrescarpe with its many sidewalk cafes and excellent people watching is just a 2 minute walk away. Also close by are Jardin des Plantes and the Panthéon.
The best part of this hotel is its wonderful staff. From Dylan’s friendly welcome at reception, to Martin’s warm greetings and his gracious hospitality, and the professional and friendly demeanor of everyone who works here, I felt like a valued guest. I actually felt a little sad when I had to check out to continue my travels in France. I know I would have been happy to stay here for my whole week of...
Read moreUnfortunately, our stay here was less than ideal. The room we checked in to had a number of issues, primarily related to its maintenance and upkeep.
The bathroom in our room had a distinct odor throughout our stay, and there were yellow stains on the ceiling above the shower (whether or not those stains were the source of the smell, who knows).
We came to realize that these stains were likely due to the showerhead leaking and shooting water upwards whenever it was on. Additionally, the shower door didn't seal properly, which meant that every time we took a shower, the bathroom floor was covered in water, which meant we needed to mop it up with a towel.
The Daikin air unit in our room was also malfunctioning/non-functional, regardless of the mode it was on - even just the fan mode. The unit would occasionally turn on, blinking green, turn off, and refuse to turn back on. Given the size of the room, it did get fairly warm -- even with the windows open in October -- so having some air circulation would have been much appreciated.
I did bring these issues to the hotel staff's attention, making a request to switch rooms on our first night. While the staff were friendly and understanding, they weren't able to switch our rooms, given the hotel was fully booked; this was also the case the following night, and since our stay was for 3 nights, I didn't bother to push any further after that.
Perhaps we were unlucky with our stay, and the staff did seem like they cared, but ultimately, our experience at the Hotel Apolonia left us disappointed and...
