Le Regent Montmartre is situated in the Montmartre region of Paris. Metro stop: Anvers (line 2). Its only about a 10 minute walk from Gare du Nord (central station) from there you can take a tram anywhere you want to go.
I felt that, for the price, this hostel was acceptable. The double room I had was clean, and had an en suite bathroom with shower (with a broken shower door), sink and toilet. At night, and well into the early morning, the streets around the hotel are noisy, with traffic and people shouting until past dawn. So if you're a light sleeper, or expecting some peace and quiet, it's probably not the hotel for you. This is a fairly busy area, quite close to Pigalle, with a number of shops nearby, including a cash machine, pharmacy, coffee shops and small supermarkets.
They serve a simple and satisfactory breakfast from 7:30 to 10am. This will help keep your costs down while in the city, so take advantage of it. The breakfast at the hostel is pretty good - instant coffee, bread, croissants, jam and butter and fruit juice.
The room was cleaned and the bed made up each day, with fresh towels provided. The hotel staff seemed fine, and able to converse in a number of different languages.
In the hotel there is a room where luggage can be stored and lockers are also available. Most of the guests are fairly young backpackers, but were quite quiet.
In my opinion this hostel is able to keep its prices down because of its location. Quite frankly, the neighborhood is not what you imagine Paris to be like. If you are comfortable taking the Metro every time you need to get to the tourist sites and want to save money, this is the hotel for you. The metro is fast, convenient, and affordable. One word of advice: WATCH YOUR WALLET. Take a money belt or something similar. You cannot win with pickpockets!
We had a free wine evening and there I made new friends for life. I went there again after a year to keep a photo of us on the front desk but it was removed after some time. I kept the photograph there and told all the people in it (all were staying in the same hostel and met here for the first time) to sign at the back of it whenever they re-visit Paris. Another friend who was visiting Paris from the United States went to the hostel just to sign the photograph and he was quite disappointed with the gesture of removing the group photograph.
Overall, Le Regent is a clean and comfortable...
Read moreI am deeply disappointed with my stay at Le Regent Montmartre. Not only were the conditions unacceptable, but the response to my formal complaint revealed a complete lack of professionalism from the management. First, the absence of soap for washing hands after using the toilet in the shared bathrooms is simply outrageous, especially in a post-pandemic context where hygiene is crucial. There was no clear mention that soap had to be purchased at the reception. This is a basic hygiene requirement that every establishment should provide, particularly in shared spaces. Secondly, the elevator was out of service for the entire duration of my stay, reportedly because someone had vomited in it or left food—who knows. This not only made the elevator unusable, but it forced me to carry heavy luggage up the stairs without any assistance. No attempt was made to resolve this issue promptly, which is a clear violation of basic hygiene and accessibility standards. The check-in process was a nightmare, with a 30-minute wait and four return trips to the reception before I could finally get into my room. No key card was provided, meaning I had to go to the reception every single time I needed access to my room—an incredibly frustrating and avoidable issue. As for the room, there was a strong odor of cheese that made the experience unbearable. While it may not have been strictly a cleanliness issue, it was still a terrible experience overall, and the staff’s justification that it was "normal" for a dormitory was both condescending and unacceptable. Finally, the staff’s behavior was disrespectful and condescending, which only worsened the situation. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, my legitimate frustration was downplayed, and I was treated as if I should expect such poor conditions. I strongly advise against this establishment for anyone seeking even a minimum level of comfort and customer service. Unfortunately, no refund was offered despite these major inconveniences, and the management seems entirely disinterested in improving the...
Read moreIn hindsight, one of the smartest things we did while in Paris was to book a hostel in Montmartre. We were keen to stay in 2 different places for our stay so it was to be 2 nights in Le Regent, Montmartre.
Having arrived in Paris a rather cramped Euronight train from Milan, we made it without too much trouble to Le Regent in Montmartre after the customary introduction to Paris' labyrinthine underground railway. Access to the metro is topnotch with the Anvers station barely a minute away.
Le Regent is everything you'd expect of a Parisian Hostel and especially one in Montmartre. It has all the fun decor of a hostel with loads of knickknacks in the lobby and reception. People of many dispositions and ethnicities can usually be seen here.
They have a luggage locker wherein we put our stuff before heading out to see some choice spots of Montmartre such as the Sacre Couer, Moulin Rouge and the Amelie cafe. It rained in the morning and we were quite happy to come back to Le Regent after noon. Our dorm room lived up to the hostel's billing as a cozy little haunt. The bathroom was adequate. The beds were comfortable. Breakfast was the usual fare only much tastier than any we'd had yet.
Brochures and Maps are available like in any other place but what distinguishes this place from a run-of-the-mill are the little snippets of information scribbled onto boards about what buses to take or which train routes to use to get to the Louvre or Versailles etc.
Le Regent also provided for one memorable conversation on Bollywood with three Taiwanese girls who kept gesturing in a madcap way with their arms flailing horizontally above their head and below it respectively. It turned out they were trying to tell us about 3 Idiots and the dance step from Zoobi Zoobi!
Can't think of a more perfect place for...
