We got off to a rocky start here. I asked for the breakfast to be removed when we checked in but they mistakenly charged me. I was then told it couldn't be refunded as it was together on the booking. Wasn't a problem in Menninger Amsterdam. I'm assuming they must process refunds regularly. I was tired from travelling so I didn't argue. The bar was also closed for all but the last day of our stay which was very disappointing as we weren't given any advance notice. There is also regularly a vinegary smell on the first floor corridor.
All being said I did enjoy my stay here. It's the only place you can get a good price for a family of 5 all in one room. The beds were comfortable but the room did get quite stuffy ( you can request the window to be opened but it's right by a very busy motorway.) With the window closed you really don't hear it, the sound proofing is excellent. Some air con would be very welcome that just the fan coil.
Staff were very helpful particularly Mohammad at the breakfast buffet and another chap at the front desk who took the time to make some proper tea with milk just how we like it (but is still seemingly an unknown thing in France🤣).
Breakfast is very simple buffet and reasonable for the price. It can get very busy though and cutlery and cups can quickly run out leaving you waiting for more to appear.
The area directly around the hotel doesn't feel that attractive but a few minutes walk is St Mandés which is lovely and is next to the massive zoological gardens.
Nearest metro Is line one which we found connected you to all the main attractions of Paris. And the bus to Beauvais airport and Orly.
You really won't get better for the price for a family of five and I would recommend Menninger for a stay in Paris. It's possible the hotel itself just needs a little spruce ( new carpet painting in the upper corridors etc and maybe some more games in the common area like in the the Amsterdam branch. If the bar had been open and the refund was properly handled I would have given 4 stars. I'm sure I was just a little unlucky on this occasion. Hopefully I will get a chance to return to Paris one day again and none of my concerns will...
Read moreNot to put a bad name but I don’t think I would stay here again. I will start by saying that the staff are and were amazing here. We don’t speak French well and were greeted with every staff member kindly speaking English with us, this was greatly appreciated. The couple of things that we noted that changed my rating; the bathroom of our room smelt like mold, like a mold that has been there for a very long time. It actually made the whole room smell quite foul. We couldn’t leave the door open or closed, either way was just really bad. The shower head was quite gross also, may be due for a change out, there were bits coming out of the head which was kind of gross. The next thing was how hot the room was, there was no option for turning the temperature down (the max it could go down was 3° from the outside temperature, keep in mind we visiting while it was 30° days so after a full day outside we came home to a smelly and hot 27° room) it would have been nice to have the option to turn it down, even temporarily. The only other thing that could have made that part better is having the option to open the window. I understand not wanting smokers in the room but it made our stay quite unpleasant. My last note is the lack of bedside tables, I know this seems like a small deal but like I would assume it’s pretty standard to have a bedside table in a hotel room for charging devices and for water ect. Not a huge deal but just a note we thought could be improved on. Again I will say, the staff were excellent and for the cost we didn’t mention anything at the venue but just a thought to maybe improve on. Ideally the bathroom situation, the smell was so bad, especially after a hot day the room got very hot and very stinky. Also a side note, one of the elevators is a little dodgy and the door kind of jerks open a couple of times (may need to take...
Read moreThe room was nearly perfect; this marks my fifth stay at a Meininger hotel. However, there was an issue with the AC—it simply didn't work. Interestingly, other guests reported the same problem, leading me to speculate that management may deactivate it when they deem the temperature satisfactory.
The restaurant staff deserves high praise, particularly Mr. Mohamad stationed at the entrance. Their exceptional service and willingness to assist truly elevate the breakfast experience.
While the check-in staff are prompt in their assistance, I found them lacking in going the extra mile. Their demeanor, while polite, lacked warmth; it felt more like a perfunctory transaction rather than a welcoming gesture.
I must express my disappointment regarding the new fees for "early check-in." I understand the concept of additional charges if the room isn't prepared, but my room was indeed ready by 1 pm. Yet, I was still required to pay 15 euros to gain access or wait until the designated 3 pm check-in time. This policy seems unjustifiable when the room is available and the guest is present.
The breakfast pricing seemed exorbitant, especially considering the limited selection of protein options and the absence of scrambled eggs.
On the final night of my stay, a sizable gathering of high school students congregated near my room, generating an unbearable amount of noise. Despite the hotel being equipped with CCTV, I had to personally visit the reception at 1 am to report the disturbance. Given the magnitude of the noise and crowd, it's hard to believe that staff weren't aware of the situation beforehand.
It took approximately 10 minutes for someone to address the noise issue, which felt prolonged considering the...
