The Moxy hotel is an interesting hotel, as it looks fancy from the outside, and it looks fancy inside too, but the fancy feel stops after you leave the lift. Once you get to your room, you’ll notice that there is no minibar for your late-night cravings, no iron to straighten up your clothes, no kettle to make tea or coffee, no drinks to enjoy, no snacks to nibble on, no menu for room service, and no phone for room service calls or room-to-room calls or local calls or even emergency calls - it’s a very dry experience. The room is very clean and everything is super minimalist, not in a bad way, but in a very uncluttered and orderly way. The bathroom is perhaps the best feature of the room - clean, with basic toiletries that don’t feel cheap at all. Oddly enough, the bathroom has more amenities than the bedroom. The wifi is public, so no need to enter your password at all.
Cleaners seem to have a weird habit of barging into your hotel room even when it’s locked, no knocking, so be way of that.
The best feature of the room, however, is the fact that you have 4 USB chargers across the room - 2 are by the tiny desk you can use for work (warning: it’s tiny, beautiful in glass, but tiny), and 2 are by your bedside, because even though you know it’s a bad habit, you know you want your phone to be fully charged while you’re browsing Instagram late at night. Speaking of social media, this hotel is quite famous in the area and it does have a social clout around Berlin, so even though your room may feel a little dry and uneventful, the atmosphere in the hotel (reception and bar) is a nice reminder of the Berlin party life - worth having a drink while you’re here.
This hotel is full of surprising contradictions. Ultimately, the choice is up to you: stay here if you want to feel fancy, in a great location, close to one of the main Berlin stations, at the expense of commodities you may be familiar with from your previous stays at other hotels….or just go to another boring, grey hotel, where the curtains match the carpet in a rainbow of grey, yet with the amenities you may need during your stay. The choice is yours.
Oh, and they give you a complimentary drink at arrival, which is a nice...
Read moreI had the pleasure of staying at Moxy Berlin Ostbahnhof for six days in early October 2016. From check-in to check-out my interactions with all members of the staff, from the desk to housekeeping was a pleasant and friendly experience. Within a three-minute walk to the Ostbahnhof train station, and a bus stop on the corner, you have unlimited options for getting around Berlin in a short space of time. The hotel is clean and well-kept and has a young, chic, very happening vibe. From iMacs to foosball, comfy chairs and sofas, books and other games, bar, and dining area, the lobby area is a veritable playground. The hotel was very affordably priced, which I hope continues to be the case.
The continental breakfast served up a delicious assortment of bread, muffins, croissants, cake, cereals, fruit, juices, coffee, teas, and yogurt. The dining area had drinks, snacks and sandwiches for sale, a microwave, water and ice machine, and an assortment of condiments and teas for your use while a guest. There was also a bar, which I never partook of, but many others seemed to.
The room offered adequate space for a couple, though if it was about six inches larger in the bathroom that would be ideal. There isn't a place to hang your clothing, so you would be living out of a suitcase which can be a nuisance for extended stays. If you have foot pain, the anti-slip flooring in the shower will be hard on your feet. The bed was a bit lumpy, not usual for Marriott brands, or a brand new hotel, but not completely uncomfortable. The room was very clean and the housekeeping staff is awesome.
Overall, my stay was pleasant and the staff made us feel welcome. I would gladly stay at this hotel again upon my return to Berlin next year, if prices...
Read moreI was really excited about my trip to Germany and it all started at Moxy Berlin Ostbahnof. I had never stayed at a Moxy before and the idea of a social hotel like this really intrigued me. It exceeded all expectations. The rooms were cozy, the air conditioning was perfect during the hot weather, the showers were amazing.
The Moxy Crew/bar staff were awesome. They all speak multiple languages, they are all there to make your stay fun, not just pleasant. They'll get to know you, stay up all hours chatting with you at the bar, and then remember the next day. Not your typical hotel staff, which was the best part about it...they actually were really invested in getting to know everyone who sat at the bar for a bit. They also gave GREAT recommendations about where to go and what areas to check out.
As for the location, I loved it. If you're a walker, you can get to the main tourist attractions (Brandenburg Gate, Holocaust Memorial, Checkpoint Charlie, Tiergarten/Victory Column) in 45 minutes on foot. If not, the Ostbahnof train station is literally across the street (with a helpful travel plaza right there, too) and will get you anywhere you want to go in minutes. Berlin has one of the most advanced transit systems in the world. You're also about a 25 minute walk to Boxenhagner Platz in Friedrichshain, which is an amazing area jam packed with hundreds of restaurants, pubs, and bars. Finally, you're across the river from Kreuzberg, which is another really awesome area with great cafes and restaurants.
All in all, I have nothing but good things to say about my stay and it all came at a really...
