A truly beauty restaurant spoiled by truly awful service.

I made a reservation a month in advance to celebrate my two year wedding anniversary and the soon to arrive baby I’m carrying. I wrote in my reservation that it was a very special occasion and please if possible could we have a table river side. When we arrived the host hardly checked my name on the reservation and then walked us straight over to a table right as you walk in, so inside the restaurant not remotely close to the outside. It was an extremely hot evening as it was and I am 7 and a half months pregnant so the heat is even more intense for me and the restaurant was a sauna. I politely asked the host if an outside table would be opening up soon as I was too hot to sit inside. She said she had absolutely no idea when a table outside would be available so I suggested that my husband and I wait at the bar for the next outside table to open up, she simply replied that we were allowed to do that. We walked over to the bar where we waited and I sweated for about 10 minutes and the bar tender still hadn’t asked us for an order so we asked him if we could order to which we were told he was too busy and would be there soon. 5 minutes later and I was desperate for some water so I asked him if I could have some water while we waited for him and he told me he was too busy and it wasn’t his fault but he would be with us soon so I told him that it wasn’t my fault the baby in my belly was making me extremely hot and thirsty. Another 5 minutes and he slammed some water in front of us and asked what we wanted. My husband ordered a glass of wine and I asked if he could make a mocktail (keep in mind I’m 7 and a half months pregnant, a massive belly and I’d already said I was dehydrated thanks to being pregnant). In total seriousness he confirmed that a mocktail contained no alcohol which I confirmed and then he said there was one mocktail he could make but he would only be making me that one because it was too consuming for him to make another. The drinks arrived and my precious mocktail was a glass full of ice and maybe a shot full of liquid which he charged almost the same price as a cocktail for. Another 15 minutes went by so by this point it’s half an hour since we started waiting at the bar, my husband went to the host to ask if she knew how much longer it would be to which she told him she had no idea. We decided if the attitudes of the host and bar tender were anything to go by we were better off going elsewhere so we left. It’s a shame the staff aren’t polite or professional because the restaurant is beautiful and the food coming out of the kitchen looked amazing but we won’t be going back. Luckily we went to one of our usual way better known favourite restaurants who I called and explained what had happened so they got us a table, congratulated us and we went on to have a lovely evening. That would have been 4 stars if it wasn't for that incredibly rude sommelier (I guess he wasn't a normal waiter, at least he certainly didn't appreciate you ordering from him). Such personnel should be fired on the spot. I mean it, because he ruined the whole experience, even though the food was good and the rest of the staff very nice. He wouldn't bring us the wine we wanted to order (!) and told us we should get white wine first. Then the wine came but not the promised appetizers, when I asked him he looked down at me and in his condescendent manner waved at me as to say "one second, pace yourself". Unheard of. They think they have high standards but in real high standards places like Michelin starred kitchens this would be an immediate send-off! For such prices and especially in Berlin, you HAVE to have perfect service as well as perfect food. He kept insisting we order ridiculously expensive bottles and even though we had said from the start that we wanted a heavy full bodied red wine he pointed at a Beaujolais!!! Incompetent on top of being rude. We managed to order our wine from the other nice waiter but we had to wait for him to be busy despising another table and when he noticed the bottle on our table he didn't look too happy about it 😂 Seriously if you go there just order beer or tell them you're pregnant to avoid that nuisance! I reallt love the location and I had an amazing experience in the old location across the river, a shame it changed for the worse. In that price category rather go to Katz Orange or Nightkitchen! Same amazing food and great locations but no service that is up their...

It was the worst dining experience in my life. I live in Berlin and I brought my family to have dinner with the sunset. We were sitting outside. The benches were quite wet. I asked the manager and she literally told me: what do you expect, it was rainy.

After that we were filming the river and a waiter came to us asking to stop filming in the most rude and arrogant way.

Our starters came quick and were decent. However, for the main course we waited for an hour. The same waiter deliberately avoided us and did not come to us ever. Meanwhile he was smoking right next to us to the left, after smoking he went straight to delivering food without washing the hands (hello Lebensmittelkontrol).

After 1 hour of waiting I came to the waiter and asked him, what is happening with our main course. He turned this back on me and left in the most brazen way one could imagine in service.

I spoke to the manager about the waiter. She tried to side with the waiter, but at least she served us personally.

The separate attention goes to the main course. We ordered pasta and risotto. Both were absolutely flavorless and disgusting.

Katerschmaus used to be a great place, I wonder, what happened to it??

If the management cares: the booking took place on Monday 26.06.23 at 19.30. The waitor was a man, 35-ish y.o. with the beard...
