You only have ot read the reviews across on TripAdvisor to be made aware that this place, needs some work. Well, when I say "work", what it needs is a couple of bulldozers and a wrecking ball. The building is tired, like dog tired. Like walking out of the desert when your car breaks down and heading in circles for two days and finally finding a rescue team, tired. Details to follow..
However, it was cheap. REALLY cheap. It had a pool. And the location is fantastic for Skala town and the beaches. Staff were great. Sophia ran the whole place from her "pool bar" and breakfast room and she was warm, funny and welcoming. She is the heart of that hotel and works damned hard in spite of the circumstances. The poor cleaner was doing her best, but she is facing an impossible task considering the dreadful state of the place. Our room was always clean, but not in a mainstream hotel type way, this is Greece right? So everything comes with a smattering of "that'll do..". Breakfast is not what I'd term "continental". There is fresh bread, a few loaves. Jam. Cold cuts and cheese. LURPAK butter! My favourite. Cereals. Fruit juice is that stuff you get in square plastic cups at the cinema in the 70's... No straw though. :-) Coffee is in a big urn, not bad and does the job. There is Greek yogurt too. So all said, enough to kick start you for the day.
Our room had a small balcony with 2 comfy textaline chairs and small table, that overlooked the main street which was excellent for people watching. And eavesdropping on anyone in the hotel that decided to have a speakerphone conversation with their loved ones at home. The bed was comfy, on the firm side and offered the occasional BOINGGGGG when you moved. Bedding was always clean and fresh. Electrical outlets were limited and our powered the in room fridge (really noisy), the TV (never used) and the kettle. Be warned, some of the sockets we saw had burn marking above them so I'd be REALLY careful what you plug in them.
Our bathroom was actually fine. There was a tiny shower tray, 60x60, and the dreaded shower curtain. Rain head, regular shower head and weirdly a tap! It all worked, kind of. You learned to jiggle the control around until you found the right flow and temperature, but there was plenty of hot water (from 7am to 10am and 5pm to late), nothing to moan about. The floor does get wet but then that's why there is a drain in it!
So, the whole place needs a refresh/redesign in summary. However, if you measure it against the price (less than £400 for 14 nights, including flights, in May) it's a win.
Set your preconceptions aside, prepare for the worst, and you'll end up pleasantly surprised. I hope you have a great...
Read moreOK as usual moans first. Place needs a fair bit of TLC, coat of paint, most water facets need to be descaled and the bathrooms are on the small side, but apart from that its a lovely little Greek hotel, its not a 5* by a long stretch but it does as a base. Reporting issues after 6pm needs to be looked at, the numbers at reception don't work and they're the only means of contact, thankfully the lady in the next apartments had Sophie's number who had finished 15 minutes earlier, she phoned the manager who contacted the maintenance men, thankfully in 45 minutes the water had been stopped and the shower worked fine again. Quite a few of the sunbeds had tears down the side, only going to get bigger as the season goes on, could easily rip when someone sits on it. All little things but really need looking at. Also maybe reduce the price at the pool bar €4 for a can of coke/sprite that is €1.40 over the road at the supermarket, add a bit yes but really!!|Now the pluses, pool and surrounding area is really clean, opens at 1000 and closes about 1800, our room was cleaned daily. Breakfast was basic and could have done with tomatoes/ cucumber to go with the ham & cheese, bread/toast with a selection of juices, tea or coffee. Staff were great, all friendly and constantly on the go. People do have a point about the walk up the cobbles and the steps, but if you take the time to look you will find the road that runs adjacent is tarmacked and is a lot easier to walk up and yes there are 13 steps to the front of the hotel, both my wife and I have walking issues but we cant wait to go back. Finally a word to the council or equivalent, sort the beach out, it looked more like a jungle with sun beds...
Read moreWe stayed here July 2025. The picture shown is not the hotel but the studio's at the back . The coach drops you at the kiosk down the road and you have to pull your cases up the cobbled hill 200 metres to the hotel then up a curved staircase to get in the hotel | No access at all for disabled or people with walking difficulties. We had room 208 decorated In.what can only be described as 1950's colours . The furniture in the room was broken ,drawers missing ,handles missing and paint peeling off . There were blue pipes stuck up out of the floor in the bedroom and bathroom. The bathroom was so small you couldn't get in without standing in the shower to get round the door to the toilet . The shower had a mouldy curtain which we replaced with a new on .The door had a half circle cut out of it as it opened on to the sink or you wouldn't have been able to open the door at all .and there was mould on the ceiling and walls .The cleaners came every day made the bed and mopped the floor and that was it . The corridor was dark to the room and had one light bulb. The pool has no markings to tell you it's depth, the sun beds where ripped and the shower at the pool had black mould and slime hanging from the heads . The pool closes at 6pm where you are asked to leave . The gates are locked and chained . |Would I recommend this hotel? Definitely not it's like going back in time . If I had paid full price for this hotel I would be asking for a refund . It's know locally as Fawlty towers and can...
