Highly recommended restaurant just out of the main town - you can actually park nearby if you don't fancy the walk from the main car park. The outside garden weirdly feels a bit British - lawn, hedging, swing set etc - which might be a positive or negative for you, but the table layout is lovely and, when we were there, you got a very un-British view of the moon rising over the sea! The people who run it are lovely and very attentive (although we ended up waiting a while for the bill, I think they were just a bit rushed off their feet) and they even gave us a bit of free dessert at the end of the meal which was a lovely gesture. There was a couple next to us celebrating their wedding anniversary and the restaurant had decorated their table with balloons and even presented them with a special cake. Definitely a sign of great service! The food was very good but special mention for the simply named "sausage" from the Appetisers menu, it was incredible and should definitely be bumped up to a main dish! We would all have eaten a lot more of it! Overall, one of our favourite restaurants we visited in Kefalonia and definitely worth checking out if...
Read moreWe found this fantastic little place by accident on our way out of town earlier in the day. Nice and tucked away from the main Street of Skala. Advertising the grill - all cooked on charcoal. We were lucky that a table was free that evening, as all the other empty tables were reserved and soon had occupants. The service was friendly, helpful and professional, describing some of the dishes I wasn't familiar with. The food was delicious and there was such a good selection to choose from it was hard to decide. I plumped for the veal liver with mushrooms, which was cooked just right so it melted in the mouth. There was a specials board on too. I chose the dessert from that - Galaktoboureko - Greek Custard Pie! Delicious. After this the waiter brought us a surprise shot of the house liqueur a lychee and rose water flavoured drink which was fantastic. The one thing that would have held back a fifth star were the cats roaming in between the tables begging for morsels. But on the whole they weren't too bad if ignored. We will be...
Read moreProbably the best tavern in Kefalonia in terms of quality, service and price!
If you visit Skala in Kefalonia this family tavern is a must! The food was well crafted and the flavors are indeed what we call original greek cuisine.
We tried many different plates, such as lamb, the mixed grill, chicken souvlaki, "gemista" (stuffed tomatoes, as you can see in the picture below). The portions were fairly large, after eating some apetites and the main course you will be full. If you have some space left in your belly you must try the desert of the day which usually served with ice cream.
The most valuable asset though are the people working there. Apostolis and all the members of the "crew" are one of the most genuinely polite amd professionals people that l have encountered in restaurants. A big "bravo" for all their work.
We stayed 5 days in Kefalonia in which the 3 of them we ate at Apostolis. If we could, we would have eaten there every single day!...
