Stayed there twice within a month (after intervening trips away from Athens). Had identical impressions on both stays.||This is a new (2-3 years in operation) boutique hotel occupying a repurposed old building. The apparent gut rehab resulted in a marvelous cute building. The rooms (and I tried 2 different ones) are thoroughly modern and luxurious at the same time. Examples: the all-marble baths with fancy plumbing, and the high quality and most comfortable beds. I also fancied the "do not disturb/make my room" electronic system operated from the inside of the room. No card signs to manually hang outside your door needed to make your wish known. ||All the rooms have at least one usable balcony, and the lucky customers on the 4th floor have one that looks over to the Parthenon (though not the rest of the Acropolis complex). For the rest, fear not: all have access to the 4th floor terrace with plenty of tables and chairs to relax at any time. Suggestion: bring up your breakfast and coffee from the inside the building restaurant and enjoy it along with the view and the fresh air.||Other charming details abound. For a example, the precious, turn-of-the-century original, but perfectly refurbished, iron-caged elevator. Get the short ride to your floor in it's wooden car serenaded by soft classical music. (Is this elevator business what inspired the name of the hotel?)| |The place is also fortunate in its location: In a commercial by day area (and not far from the Syntagma Square and the sights to see around it), but in a block lively with restaurants and bars after hours. The added bonus is that it is not right next to any noisy bar, so you can get a good night's rest. The pretty Italian restaurant on the ground floor has good Italian fare.||The front desk and the maids crew are most helpful and graceful.||Exquisitely...

Firstly, the check-in process was slower than a tortoise race. It took an eternity, with staff seemingly more interested in their personal phones than the growing line of weary travelers. Once I finally got my key, it led me to what can only be described as a room from ancient ruins, minus the charm. The walls were adorned with wallpaper that seemed to be peeling in an attempt to escape the room itself.
The bed must have been a relic from the Spartan era, designed not for sleep, but for back pain and misery. The sheets? I've seen mummies wrapped in better linens. And the cleanliness? Let's just say the dust bunnies were practically evolving into a new species.
But the true adventure began when I attempted to use the bathroom. The shower was a riddle, with knobs that seemed to mock me as I struggled to find a temperature setting between "Arctic Tundra" and "Lava Flow." The towels provided could have doubled as sandpaper, an innovative approach to exfoliation perhaps, but not what one hopes for after a shower.
