Black Duck — Restaurant in Athens

I used to visit this lovely outdoor, centrally located garden café/bar frequently in the past and thus today, on a beautiful autumn Sunday morning following a visit to the Athens City Museum ... next door ... I was happy to return! 😊

The atmosphere was just as as relaxed & pleasant as I remembered. The coffee was good and the service prompt, attentive and friendly. 😊👍

Although we had planned to have coffee only, on the spur of the moment ... with happy food memories from the past on my mind ... I convinced my friends to try something from the place's new brunch menu.

I wish I hadn't as both the smoked brioche sandwich and the pancakes, that I ordered, with the sauce on the side were most disappointing ... and definitely missing all the sparkle of the past!

It hurts me to write this, but the pancakes, were about the worst I've ever tasted in Athens! 😫😫 At least the presentation was simple & nice & the hazelnut crumble tops (as seen in photo) 😊 ... which gives me some hope that whoever made the pancakes today has some potential that will perhaps shine on another day!😉

This was definitely one of our favourite lunch during our time visiting in Athens! Different than many restaurants and cafes located on the crowded central streets in central Athens, Black Duck Garden is located tucked inside a small alley way that creates an extra cozy and vibrant atmosphere to dine it. Their dishes are absolutely delicious, they tasted even better than how they were beautifully presented already! Our favourite was definitely the Starter of the Burrata! It was whole ball of burrata served with their housemade specialty cold melon soup that tasted so refreshing and paired the fresh tomates and burrata perfectly!

We also got their lamb meat dish to try, the lamb was PERFECTLY cooked and tender that it was beautifully balanced dish with a whole melody of flavours the leak puree and fruit sauce. The portion they serve are also super generous that we were stuffed even though we shared it between tw of us.

Definitely recommend this place as one of the best restaurant to enjoy lunch in Athens if you are looking somewhere aesthetic and delicious fusion/modern dishes, or just for drinks they also have a section of their restaurant that’s a bar...

We went with a reservation to have some late lunch with the expectation of having an amazing all around experience but I personally a bit disappointed. The food was good but not as exceptional as what other people have said however we only had two sandwiches and desserts. I felt the prices were not justified given the size or the flavour of the sandwiches. The pulled pork sandwich was over 10 euros, that's why I mention the size and flavour, for greece I would expect something better with that price tag. The other sandwich also quite small and around the 10euro mark. The dessert again, small and supposed to be super tasty as it was the basque cheesecake but was below expectations. I guess you pay for the location and the garden which I have to admit that it was very nice. The bill in the end came wrong and before that we got the wrong dessert on the table so you get charged for premium service but in the end it was...
