Hotel stay review

Airport shuttle: we booked a taxi from the airport through the hotel. They told us it would be 55 euros and that the taxi driver would be waiting for us in arrivals with a sign. When we got to the airport, I got a text from the driver telling us to leave the airport, and message him at a meeting point outside. When we got to the hotel, the taxi driver charged us 65 euros. He said it is more after midnight. We mentioned this on check in and the member of staff just said that it is more after midnight. They didn't mention it in their email though and she said the taxi driver should have met us on arrivals. No apology...shs just brushed it all off.

Check in: when we checked in, the member of staff said she had waited for us and that she should have finished her shift at midnight. She didn't ask how our journey was or show us to our room. She just asked for my bank card and asked me to sign a document. We then just found our own way to the room with our luggage.

Room: when we arrived in our room, we noticed the bathroom floor was a little dirty. The shampoo bottle was also empty. The room was very basic for a 4* hotel.

Breakfast: this was the best thing about the hotel. The food was good and the options were decent. The service wasn't the most friendly but they got the job done and I think it's worth including if you choose to stay here.

Noise: the door to the rooftop slammed every night which sometimes woke me up. I imagine this was just when people were coming and going.

Location: the location was great for exploring Athens. The road that the hotel on is quiet. The only noise came from rooftop visitors.

Cleanliness: the public areas were pretty clean. The cup during breakfast one morning was dirty. The bathroom floor wasn't clean on arrival.

Check out: the member of staff (different to check in and breakfast) just asked me to pay the tax. She didn't ask how our stay was.

We loved Athens and we put up with all above, however we expected more from a 4* hotel. We will probably stay somewhere else next time but it's OK if you lower your expectations...

The hotel is fine, clean and quiet and in a good enough location. Our issue was with the service and staff. We booked our reservation far in advance and, as it turned out, we booked with a check-in the day after we were slated to arrive in Athens. Over the course of the month before we arrived, we sent the hotel at least 4 emails stating the day that we were arriving in Athens when we thought we were checking in. The staff always responded promptly--we were trying to book a tour guide, ask about early check in etc--but NO ONE ever actually checked the reservation during the course of the communications, which would have been a perfect opportunity for them to let me know that I had the wrong check-in date. (Also, every other hotel we booked for this trip sent us a confirmation email in advance with details and dates which would have given us the chance to notice and correct the error.) We arrived in Athens, had no place to stay, spent a lot of money on rooms for one night and then the folks at Neoma refused to refund us for the extra night which we didn't use. We asked about this every day of our stay, and they were evasive. One morning we were talking to the manager, and he didn't identify himself as the decision maker, even though he was. This might be the kind of service you would expect at a low budget hotel or a massive chain that doesn't care about its customers but this is supposed to be a boutique property and they treated us poorly and dismissively. You can find a better place to...

Review of the hotel. The upsides: The location is great; it's quieter than in the thick of Athens, but close enough for a quick 15 minute walk into the hustle and bustle. The view from the roof is amazing. Some staff are really nice and friendly. The downsides: Some staff are a bit standoffish and come across rude. The shower gel was empty on 1st use. Not even low, completely empty. I only realised after I was in the shower. I had to get out and call reception and wait for them to bring up some shower gel. Not a major problem, but it was a while to wait when wet and cold. The biggest issue was the internal noise. The door lets all noises through. Anyone walking through the lobby on the 3rd floor, or up to the public restaurant will travel into the room. This made it very hard to sleep when people are leaving the restaurant at night and slamming the door to the rooftop which is immediately next to our room door. Most night's sleep were disrupted. There is also a store room next to the room which when being used by staff wakes you as the sound travels through to the room. The curtain doesn't close all the way, as the built-in ledge gets in the way. So you have a slither of light from the street lights in the room. Overall the hotel is OK. But the price and label is 4 star. Lots of room for improvement. It's either a good 3 star, or a 4 star that needs some things sorting out.

We stayed at the Neoma in September for a week. After missing a connecting flight due to a previous flight delay, it meant we lost one night in the hotel. We contacted them to advise & they were great, very understanding and moved everything to the next day. Our booking was non refundable so we appreciate we were unable to receive a refund. Check in was seamless, we were provided lots of information about the hotel & surrounding area and always greeted upon entering or leaving the hotel. Rooms were clean, bright & spacious. We did need to ask for our air con to be lower a few days but the reception staff did it right away without any issue. We did find the noise from the road at the front can be heard so if you prefer silence, book a city view rather than acropolis however, I’m fairly sensitive to noise and it still didn’t really interfere and we had great sleeps. Food / breakfast: delicious, lovely friendly attentive staff. Food was cooked to order and all super tasty. Great coffee. Pool / rooftop: well laid out sun deck area and AMAZING views of the acropolis, the best we came across all week! Staff were very friendly & attentive, drinks were offered straight away. Food choices for lunch were also great. Overall, we loved our stay at the Neoma. It’s a small hotel and the service reflects that, friendly, intimate and attentive. We would 100% stay again.

The location of the hotel was convenient and the breakfast selection was decent however we did not stay in the room that was original booked (with hill view and Acropolis view from the balcony) due to an unpleasant smell of damp and mildew which was extremely sickening. We managed to change to the last room that was available at the hotel the next day (without the view of Acropolis and on a lower floor) and that unpleasant smell had lingered all over our clothes, our coats which were stored in the cupboards from the first room, and everything in our luggage. In the new room the shower had flooded several times and water went into the bedroom. This was only fixed the day before checking out. Due to the issues and unnecessary interruptions during our stay, I do not think the hotel is good value for money. The outdoor restaurant on the rooftop on the other hand (with transparent bubble shaped domes) was lovely and had the most amazing view across the city and of Acropolis. Do try the shrimp orzo from the menu and you will not regret it! The bisque was so rich, bold, and flavourful and the rice was so silky and decadent. I would skip the lamb picanha as we found it a little bland and the fat around the sides was not rendered enough. It also was not rested long enough before being served. The basque cheesecake and the cocktails were delicious.
