We arrived at Meteora at sunset after driving all day. We were tired and had no hotel reservation. We saw Gogos which had parking and looked nice so we stopped.||The hotel is well situated in the village of Kalambaka just a short walk up in to the central square. In the morning we were delighted to see the rock columns towering above us.||||This is one of the few hotels we have been to in Greece with a screen on the patio door which allowed us to sleep with fresh air pouring in. Unfortunately there was a guard dog tied up nearby who barked periodically during the night.||||We were the only guests in the hotel and it seemed that it must have been early season because there were no lights on in the lobby just the lights at the front door and at the desk. I guess they were in power conservation mode. The friendly couple running the place did not speak English so we had to do lots of gesturing. Fortunately their son who was in and out did have good English so were were able to negotiate the room rate with some certainty. The couple running the place sat in the lobby watching TV but did serve an unusual breakfast of grilled cheese sandwiches, yogurt and coffee which was tasty. I guess this early in the season isn't a great time to enjoy the amenities of the hotel which included a nice outdoor garden bar area. Although free internet was advertised we were never able to...
Read moreFirst of all, there is no pool. The pictures you see here are taken from another hotel.
The rooms are nice, clean, spacios. Cannot complain. The location is excellent, right in the middle of the village with great access and views of the surrounding cliffs. The hotel has ample parking space and a small yard to hang out outside.
Unfortunately, all of these great things pale when thinking about the service. The owner is really fixed on making money, asking for everyrhing up front, but without any possibility of a refund if anything is not as expected. Do not ask for the breakfast. It is somewhat plain, not much choice. But what is REALLY WEIRD is that the owner's parents sit there in the room with you, while you are eating, just staring at the wall. It is really cringe, makes one feel like they are in someone's house and are not welcomed... Good luck trying to get a refund if you don't like the breakfast. Also, the dogs in the yard are horrible. They bark and whine all night, you cannot get any sleep if the room is facing the back. Probably because they are tied up in a small dirt parch all day. I was with a ebike group in April 2025. The overall experience was not bad, but not great. Mainly because of the owner's attitude. I guess the location compensates these things. But it is fair to say them up front so that...
Read moreThe menu pics are all lies. There's a big placard out front showing an English breakfast. So I asked for it only to be told they don't serve it. So instead I asked for the gyro... The first big pic on the sign out front. When it arrived, it was gyro meat and chopped veggies and French fries on a plate with some waffle bread on the side. NOT a gyro. When I asked what I was given and explained that I'd ordered a gyro, the waiter (bald guy) got really angry and told me it says "gyro helping" on the menu. I said I thought that meant one gyro. He got even more mad and then kicked me out. He literally kicked me out for giving me food that is NOT what is pictured in his signs that I ordered...
