Our short trip to Meteora started with a disappointing experience at this accommodation. We booked and payed the double room with the balcony in the same day at 10 in the morning, received a confirmation email and a long massage with all the information required for our self check in. 6 hours later at 16 we arrived at the location and since we received a blurry picture with the key box code we called to ask the code to enter the building and the room number (this one wasn’t provided - just “you ll find the keys on the door”). They answered quickly but the man who answered was confused and asked us all the details from our booking and when we told him the name of the room that we booked he acted like the mistery was over and he gave us a completely different room. Yes, the room was bigger but not as nice and without the balcony and the view that i booked (it had a terrace but with the view to the neighbors house) + it was 18€ cheaper than the one that i booked. We called again to ask to be placed in the room that we booked since we chose this accommodation for it and he asked again all the details from the booking and he told us to wait for someone to come at the reception to help us. The lasy who came was polite and nice but completely lost because she wasn’t in charge with the reception and the owners weren’t there. She told us that there was a problem with their system and apparently that room was already booked and they couldn’t close it so it was booked twice. For a self check accommodation this is unacceptable. We paid for something that didn’t exist and no one contacted us prior to our arrival. After one hour of waiting and frustration and after a long road we decided to stay in the room available since it was already paid. At least we received the price difference. The room was clean, big and with the basic facilities. No ventilation in the bathroom. The breakfast was poor, just with cold cuts and tasteless, but the lady from the breakfast was nice and polite. The location is nice and you have a lot of restaurants at a walking distance. The acces road is extremely narrow, steep and curved so have this in mind. The serious problem here is the lack of staff and for the price you expect a more professional approach.

We had the chance to arrive early so the lady who takes care of cleaning was there to help us with the room and the parking. I do understand people that get late doesn't have the same experience and must call for a 4 digits code to get the key... well I had this in Switzerland that's not terrible. We had the chance to have the upstairs rooms too. One small and one bigger. It's an old small house but really what I love. Beautiful and with an amazing situation. If you are a climber it's a great starting point. The breakfast is not the ultimate experience of breakfast but it's ok. Some local products may help to enhance the breakfast experience.

A EVITER SI POSSIBLE ! SAUF QU'A L'ARRIVEE : PERSONNE !!

Our stay at Petrino Guesthouse was very disappointing. The room itself was lovely and the view from the balcony was exceptional. The bathroom beautiful. Our biggest disappointment was that the place had no heart or soul, there wasnt anyone anywhere. It was contactless check in and after finally getting through the door and nearly falling down the cellar steps (the hatch was left open, right at the side of the entrance door) we scaled the north face of the Eiger to get up the very steep stairs to our room. We paid €250 for 2 nights and they were paper cups for the drinks! We're not snobs but for that price you expect proper cups. There was no teaspoon and after setting up a WhatsApp connection (the only means of communication with staff), I was told to go get one myself from the cellar. I said I would wait for them to bring one next time they cleaned, as it was very dark down there and was told to use the torch on my phone.. ! After we got one the next (late) afternoon from the top of the stairs in the communal room, it was immediately removed when the room was cleaned the next morning. We had used an extra cover for the bed, which was also immediately packed away in the wardrobe again, making us feel like we had done something wrong by using it. We had to ask by WhatsApp when and where breakfast was as there was no information in the room. It was in the cellar, so next morning we braved the steep steps. There were 2 ladies down there and it was absolute basic kalimera/ tea/coffee/yoghurt words, no conversation. Breakfast was ok but no fresh milk, it was the same little cartons used in the room. The restaurant they suggested in the information we found online was down a very steep hill and after walking for ages, never reached it. We went in the first we came to and had to scale the hill back up again. We went in the cafe bar opposite later and it was fabulous, full of lovely people and the food (we had pizzas the next evening, not very Greek but they looked good) was great. It had a really good atmosphere which Petrino most definitely lacked. On leaving Petrino there was a woman sat at the reception desk but she had all on to speak. Maybe a language barrier you say, but I speak Greek so there was no excuse. For us it was very disappointing, the Greek piloxenia is what we love. The place we wanted to go, where we'd been before, was fully booked so it had a lot to live up to before the stay started. As I said the building was lovely but not for those with walking difficulties or difficulties with steep steps as hand rails were lacking at the top. I think it was most definitely overpriced for the service we received. Extremely...
