We had a lovely stay at Nireas Hotel, the location was good, up a quiet hill away from the main road but only a short walk to a lovely sandy beach with clear sea, and a €15 taxi or €1.20 bus into Chania old town. There are lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance of the hotel (we loved Orexi) plus small shops that sell the essentials and more, and a lidl about 8 minutes walk away. The apartment was clean and had the essentials for a self catering holiday, with a decent size fridge containing a freezer. All the staff at the hotel were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble and they are very friendly. Christos (I think the owner?) was always around when needed and when we checked he let us know if he wasn't around he can be contacted by whatsapp. He helped us get a taxi to an excursion we pre-booked with TUI in another town and directed us on getting to Chania by bus. He has a LOVELY dog called Petra that he brings to the hotel, she's very quiet and so well behaved, no jumping up or barking etc, she's not even distracted around the cats that have made themselves at home here. Breakfast is served at the pool bar, there's plenty to choose from with local dishes and standard breakfast items. Christos asked if we have any preferences on what we'd like for breakfast when we arrived. During our stay, there was delicious cheese pie in filo pastry, spinach and cheese pastry, a sweet vanilla/cinnamon pastry (maybe Bougatsa?), bread, cereal, eggs, bacon etc. Getting a sunbed around the pool was never an issue during our stay although there were some times during the day where hardly any of the beds had shade, so we went for lunch or had a seat at the pool bar for a bit during that time.

We had a fantastic stay at Nireas. Lovely peaceful pool, rooms very spacious, although our kitchen was getting ready for a little update. 1 plug socket for kettle, toaster, and microwave proved to be a little tricky in such a small space, but we managed. The cleaners do an exceptional job every day, and it was lovely to be greeted by a different towel arrangement on the bed, we particularly liked the elephant. The hotel is set back from the main road, so far enough away from the noise but close enough to shops, restaurants, and beaches. The pool bar seems to be open but not manned. It looked like from other guests that you could help yourself and let Christos, the owner, know what you'd had when he was around in order to pay. I do think that the hotel would benefit greatly from a barman, even for just 3 hours in the middle of the day, serving beers, limited menu of cocktails, soft drinks all from a cold glass and a small menu of bar snacks. We would have definitely used the bar area for shade more and willingly paid if a welcoming ice cold drink was available. All that said, it didn't spoil our hotel stay one bit. We all said we would go back, not only to Nireas but to Kato Daratso too as it was much quieter than further towards Agia Marina. Our favourite restaurant nearby was Sky and Sea, great portions, value and atmosphere.

We arrived and stupidly couldn't find the hotel voucher we needed to check in. Thankfully, the gentleman on the desk sorted this for us, and we checked in without issue. The room itself was more than adequate for what we needed. The only issue I had was we had booked a double bed, which turned out to be two single beds pushed together, meaning we did have a few issues of either of us nearly falling through the middle. The shower was incredible. With hotels in general, I find the showers weak and always cold. This was powerful and stayed hot every time used. The pool was clean and nicely maintained. Every time we used the pool, we had it to ourselves (mid May, so early in the season) I did go a number of times to the desk to speak with someone, but each time there was no one there, or the bell went ignored unfortunately. The hotel itself is set back off the main road and can look a little scary walking back later on a night. However, this wouldn't put us off staying again. I believe on the website, it states that the beach is a 300-metre walk from the hotel. This isn't the case at all. It's a 10 minute walk, and I would say maybe even close to a mile. The beaches however, are worth the walk. We spent a lot of time snorkeling and playing in the clear water.

My son and I. Had a fantastic week at the Nireas. 1 bedroom apartment was very roomy with an enormous outside terrace. We were at the end on the ground floor with no passing traffic and no one to overlook, so totally private. Apartment was clean - and cleaning ladies did a great and unobtrusive job of keeping it that way. I found the owner very friendly and responsive. I texted him with an issue with our lock and he was there in less than a minute! We only met the owners dog once which we were disappointed about as we were missing our own, but it did mean that nireas would be totally fine for those who don’t like dogs. Pool was big and clean, always able to get sun beds. Air con was very effective and worth every penny. Kitchen tiny but perfectly adequate and it had a kettle and big mugs, microwave, crockery and a couple of saucepans. Fine for us. Hotel was very quiet, as the reviews say, and Kato Daratso similarly so. We found that almost everyone seems to head for the beach in the evening, wish we’d realised sooner. We always went for the middle beach which was beautiful. No issue for us getting sun beds, the guy put out more for us. We were by the fantastic beach cafe to the left looking at the sea. Back to the hotel, liked the mini supermarket opposite, lots there and it was always rewarding getting a smile out of the owner! But there are mini markets all along the main road and two enormous supermarkets just past the bmw garage (walk down to the main road and turn right). Only a 10 minute walk, and gave great options for self-catering. Loads of restaurants locally, we especially liked the ones nearer to the beach although we had our best and cheapest meals in chania. 21 bus is amazing. Reliable, air conditioned and quick. Turn right at the main road to the stop opposite the bmw garage to use the ticket machine which gives you €1.20 tickets into town, cheaper than buying on the bus. In Chania, recommend the morning food tour with Christos, also the archaeological museum which is amazing. Also went to elafonissi beach on a tour which was a great tour but such a busy beach so I wouldn’t recommend in the school holidays. Fabulous holiday here. So much to do and we only scratched the surface. We never go anywhere twice but I’m already booked to come next year. Thanks to...
