Beautiful location in the Zeus Village Resort outside of Agioi Apostoloi, very serene and chilled boutique hotel resort with a lovely restaurant laid out on the patio by the pool. Food was exceptional, lifting it above the traditional Cretan grill, gyros and meats to a beautifully done yet still traditional offering. We were staying at the Airis Boutique hotel not far away, and this came up on my search for dining out, with a Google maps 5.0 score. Glad we made the short taxi ride out. We went with the shared grilled octopus followed by the sea bass friacasse, and I had the traditional lamb and rice dish, and then a shared ice cream infused orange cake to end. Also, instead of the traditional Raki which can be an acquired taste, a slightly different local liquor offering, not harsh or aniseed, slightly sweet, pleasant and drinkable. All in all, highly recommended if you are in the area, but also, not far out of Chania either, well worth the trip. Well worth it retaining the 5.0 score. Enjoy! PS we did book a table prior to coming, worth doing particularly if you are coming a few miles to get here, saves...
Read moreA hidden gem of Kato Doratso - just a five minute walk from the main road and well worth a visit regardless of whether you're staying at the attached hotel. The restaurant has a lovely relaxed atmosphere with gentle music playing as we sat on the terrace overlooking the pool.
The staff were very welcoming and accommodating to our dietary requirements - a nut allergy and dairy intolerance - talking us through the menu and letting us know which dishes we should avoid and which dishes could be modified. There were plenty of dishes we could have and they all sounded very tasty. My partner ended up having the Cretan salad, which was lovely and a cut above the ones elsewhere, and I had the "grandma's fish", which was delicious and easily the best meal I had the entire holiday. Neither of us had room for dessert but I'm sure they are equally good!
The cocktails were fantastic, the "passion island" in particular. The beers (especially the local Cretan beers) were also great - we had the Xaos Pulsar and Methia IPA as recommended by...
Read moreAmbrosia Wine & Dine is a stylish restaurant at the Zeus Village Resort Hotel. I stayed at the hotel, and went to dinner at their restaurant. We had the octopus as well as the meat pie for our starters, followed by the lamb and pilaf. Dinner ended with the incredible ferreo dessert.
The service was impeccable, the staff is observant, and polite, and they give great wine recommendations. You can feel the Greek roots in the dining experience, but with a modern twist.
The dessert, especially, was so good, that the next day, we went back to the restaurant, just to have one of each dessert, and let me tell you, the calories were worth it!
I will definitely be back, whether i stay at the...
