Hotel Rosalila — Hotel in Copán

My stay at Hotel Rosalila in Copan was extremely disappointing and easily the worst hotel experience I've ever had. From the moment I entered my room, I was greeted with an overwhelming stench that could only be described as mouldy and foul, reminiscent of something decaying. It was incredibly off-putting and made the room feel uninhabitable.

To make matters worse, the electricity went off during the night, causing the fan to stop working. This left the room stiflingly hot and uncomfortable. The electricity was not restored until 6:00 PM the following day, leaving me without proper ventilation for an extended period.

Additionally, the advertised free breakfast was nowhere to be found. This added to the overall sense of neglect and mismanagement at the hotel.

The only positive aspect of my stay was the kind person working at the reception. However, his inability to speak English made communication difficult, further complicating the experience.

We have never had such a negative experience at a hotel. From the beginning, there was a complete lack of coordination from the staff. We were charged for breakfast that we never received, the TV in the room didn’t work, and they made it difficult to provide us with a receipt for the payment we had made. Despite already having stayed for two days, we received a message asking when we were going to check in — a clear sign of disorganization.

The most serious issue was a safety concern: in the middle of the night, someone opened our room door — someone who clearly had a copy of the key. We had locked the door with the double security lock, and it was the sound of the door being opened that woke me up. When I shouted, the door was quickly closed. We immediately got up to check who it was, but there was no one outside.

When we reported the incident the next morning, instead of showing concern, the staff tried to gaslight us into thinking we had left the door open — something absolutely impossible given that we had locked it ourselves. They said the night shift staff had “just closed the door,” and refused to let us see the security footage. The only solution they offered was changing rooms, but by then, we no longer felt safe staying there.

Since we didn’t leave the room that afternoon or evening, did someone assume we weren’t there and try to rob us? We don’t know — but what we do know is that it was a total lack of professionalism, and the night was completely ruined. We didn’t feel safe or respected as guests. We absolutely do not recommend this hotel.

Nunca habíamos tenido una experiencia tan negativa en un hotel. Desde el inicio, hubo una total falta de coordinación por parte del personal. Se nos cobró por un desayuno que nunca recibimos, el televisor en la habitación no funcionaba y nos pusieron obstáculos para entregarnos un recibo del pago. A pesar de que ya llevábamos dos días alojados, recibimos un mensaje preguntando cuándo íbamos a hacer check-in, lo que demuestra una gran desorganización.

Lo más grave fue un tema de seguridad: a medianoche, alguien abrió la puerta de nuestra habitación, alguien que claramente tenía una copia de la llave. Nosotros habíamos cerrado la puerta con doble seguro, y fue el sonido de alguien abriéndola lo que me despertó. Cuando grité, cerraron la puerta de inmediato. Salimos a ver quién había sido, pero no había nadie afuera.

Cuando fuimos a reportar el incidente a la mañana siguiente, en lugar de mostrarse preocupados, el personal intentó hacernos creer que habíamos dejado la puerta abierta — algo completamente imposible, ya que la habíamos asegurado nosotros mismos. Hotel Rosalia proved to be a wonderful find during our recent trip to Copan. What truly stood out was the exceptional kindness and helpfulness of the hotel manager. When our pre-arranged shuttle unexpectedly fell through, she went above and beyond to assist us in securing alternative transportation, saving us a great deal of stress! Beyond the outstanding help, the hotel itself offered a comfortable and pleasant stay. The rooms great for staying wonderfully cool throughout the night, which made for restful sleep. Hotel Rosalia provides a comfortable and clean environment with a personal touch that is truly amazing.
