If you like scuba diving and beaches, you have to go here. The resort and dive shop are so close to the beach it takes no time to get your gear, do 2 dives and be on the beach for 12-12:30 for the day. The beach has a variety of restaurants so you go for a nice beach walk and explore different places, also a grocery store on the beach to stock up on drinks and snacks. The resort is in the middle of west bay which I like so you can go either direction vs being at the end where your walk is always the same. The rooms are nestled in the trees so it feels private and when you look out you are looking at nature. Beach is very clean, not overly crowded when we were there (Dec 2024). Biggest thing I cannot stress enough is how amazing the dive staff were. Not just polite and fun, they add a name tag to your BCD so it’s easy to find and grab your equipment all week, they use an integrated BCD weight system so you don’t need a worthy belt which is much easier, but they also do all the work to set your gear up on the boat and usually bring it back so all you have to do it hop on the boat and dive. I could see nothing that old or worn down equipment wise which is really nice if you don’t have your own gear like us. Dive sites were quite good overall with lots of variety. They just make it easy to dive, have fun and then you can relax on the beach or go for a day trip later since everything is right there. Yvonne was usually our dm and she was fantastic! One of my favorite dive masters ever! If I could change 1 thing the water pressure in our room (#4) wasn’t the best but I think that’s just Roatan plumbing in general given is a a small island, but we are only paying $50/night for 2 people so what they are offering great overall value. I’ve already told my girlfriend I want to go back to west bay and looking at all the options I’d rather go back here mainly cuz the lodges were surrounded by nature and the diving/dive staff where 11/10. Your likely going to be in a concrete box, further from the beach so longer to get to and from diving, and they dive team cannot be exceeded. Thank you Yvonne and everyone at Bananarama for an unforgettable week! Peter and Sabrina

We visited Roatan for the second time March 6th thru the 13th. After the first trip, my wife and I were hooked and had to come back. I have always wanted to scuba dive, but could never get up the courage to go. Well, this trip was going to be different. We went to Bananarama Dive shop on the referral of a friend we have on the island. When we arrived at the shop, we were teamed up with Jordan who would be our guide for our first adventure. None of the people in our group had ever dove before, so we were a green behind the gills team to say the least. Jordan was extremely patient, professional and thorough with all of us throughout the whole process, even with all of our silly questions and general concerns about what could be expected. After an informative crash course where we learned all the equipment and how to operate it as well as hand signals for all of us to be able to communicate while diving, we were off to the water. When we entered the water, Jordan made sure well all had equal amount of attention and guidance while learning how to navigate all the equipment and move through the water itself. After we learned what to expect and how to navigate, we were off. Jordan was always within view and was great in pointing out all the marine life that you would never see if you didn't know what you were looking at. She continuously checked on all of us and made sure we felt comfortable and safe. This dive ended up being one of the best experiences we have had on the island so far and I recommend the shop and especially Jordan. I definitely think it takes a certain kind of person to take 4 strangers 40 ft. under water for the first time and Jordan is just that. We will definitely be back for more. Thank you for the five star experience!

My boyfriend and I spent the past week (Dec 30-Jan 6) at Bananarama Dive Resort and we cannot stress how perfect this location is!!! The dive shop is GOLD STANDARD!!! It all began with Joel who picked us up from the airport. He was so kind and helpful in offering suggestions of activities to do while on the island. He made sure we had his contact info on WhatsApp so we could reach him anytime we needed to. As for the dive shop, Marco and his fabulous team are professional, super friendly, work as a team and prioritize safety amongst their divers. Not only was our cabin located 15 steps away from the dive shop but it was super helpful to be able to keep our equipment in their storage area all week long. Special shout out to Marco, Ben and Jason who made our experience in and out of the ocean so memorable. They always went above and beyond to ensure we were happy and we will definitely be back to this Dive Shop in the future. We stayed in cabin #2 and our accomodations were absolutely terrific! Some people may say the cabins are too simple but we loved it! Who needs an tv when you’re in gorgeous Roatan? Our cabin was immaculately cleaned everyday, always smelled so nice and the price included breakfast daily which was perfect. The only suggestion I can offer to this resort is the lack of storage in the room as it’d helpful to have a small dresser to be able to fully unpack. That said, whether you’re a scuba diver or not, we HIGHLY recommend this great resort located on a gorgeous beach with lotsa restaurants. The great vibe, friendly people combined with daily food/drink specials made for an excellent getaway!

Did one dive trip with Bananarama. NEVER AGAIN.

Two reasons: One, we got to the first dive site and the motor would not go into gear to get us the rest of the way to the mooring. We're now drifting towards the rocky shore and it will not end well if we hit it. They flag down another boat and we get towed to the mooring. We start the dive because why not? If we're stuck we might as well dive while they sort it out. A few minutes into the dive I see a propeller in the reef, and it looks like a recent addition. Blades have no algae or any growth of any kind, and the splines are spotless. I realized it was ours, made a note of where it was and how to get back, and then tried to keep up.

I still need to review the footage to determine just how close of a call, but my daughter and I were heading back to the boat with one of the DMs after our safety stop (we're air hogs and the rest of the group continued with the other DM) and so we're at about 10-15 ft and close to the mooring line. I hear a boat approaching overhead and it's too loud (close) for comfort. I'm a few feet deeper and a little distance from my daughter and DM. I look up and around and see a boat coming in right overhead of us. I smack my first against my open palm repeatedly and frantically trying to get my daughter's or the DM's attention and the DM looks over at me. I frantically gesture "look" and point behind them. I'm already descending at this point and have dumped my lungs and am reaching for my BCD dump valve. She looks and sees the boat, turns and immediately grabs my daughter by the BCD and just drops, pulling her out of the way just in time. I thought it was another dive op. Nope. It was our replacement boat as they had discovered the missing prop and called for a replacement and a tow back.

The DM (Alana) agreed that it was way too close and they should not have come into the mooring under power that close, especially with a boat already there and divers in the water. Later at the shop Marco told me he ripped the captain a new one for it after Alana told him about the close call. He asked what he could do to make it right and I was too focused on making sure it never happened again because I almost got to watch my daughter's skull get opened up. We were charged full price for the dives. No discount at all.

Other issues: Zoe, the other DM on the dive, told us we could do weight checks at the beginning of the dive, then when we went to do our checks she said we could do them after the dive. After. The. Dive. We were so rushed into getting into the water that I was already stressed and it triggered a panic attack just a few feet down. I was starting the dive out of breath and with what turned out to be way too much weight. I surfaced and was going to call the dive for myself. This happened to me once before and it ruined the whole day of diving, and almost my love of diving. To her credit, though, Zoe talked me through it and was able to get me to go on the dive after I caught my breath. The dives were overall beautiful, but still felt a bit rushed underwater. This was also the dive that almost ended very badly, so it was a damn good thing I still went.

We never got to do a weight check. At all.

Our daughter's tank has an audibly leaking o-ring, and she had initially flagged it by watching her pressure drop during her pre-dive checks. We were told it would be fine, and then mocked when we pulled out our save-a-dive kit to replace the o-ring. Zoe said, "Oh, I guess you just wanted to show off your kit." The o-ring was flattened out and utterly shot...

Between the bad equipment, the rushing, the mocking, the denied weight checks, the nearly killing my daughter, andthe slap in the face of charging us full price, we will never dive with them again. I was in shock from reliving it, and it was the first time my wife was hearing about it as she was with the rest that continued on and I wasn't about to make a scene when at their mercy on the water and far from our hotel when on shore. I felt they took advantage of that to...

We did not stay at Resort, but I used the Bananarama dive shop for my Advanced open water certification, and many dives after! I have to say the Staff was incredible!

Starting at the pre trip communication with Alex in the shop, ease to get equipment fit, there system for storing gear, to get everything else I needed to make my dives stress free! The atmosphere around the Shop from the staff and divers was like a little family! I felt safe and loved the quality of equipment used! These things made a big difference from other dive shops I have used in past. Due to the smaller groups and consistent dive partners I felt comfortable with every one and learned something new on every dive!

Zoey was the DM I did my Advanced with! She was Patient, kind , great sense of humour, excited for each dive and very encouraging! She made me feel safe and right at home from the beginning! She was very knowledgeable and always the first to show me the cool things in the water! Encouraged me to try a night dive and I even had confidence to get them to schedule me with a Shark dive! I highly recommend Zoey and will definitely return to dive here again! Thanks for the Amazing dives and honestly an unforgettable experience! I saw a hammerhead, sting rays, eels, dolphins, seahorse, turtles, squid, and reef sharks! All bucket list things in one trip!

After a horrible Discover scuba at another dive shop on the island for my wife and sister (recommended by family friends), I was able to bring my sister to Bananrama where Jordan took my sister out and allowed me to tag along. She was super patient and calm, helped my sister gain confidence in diving, and allowed my sister to find love in it, and not disappointment and fear like she had from her first experience . Needless to say, Bananaramas dive masters made the atmosphere inviting and safe for my sister to learn. (The bad dive shop had sized my wife in the wrong BCD, same size as me. I am 5”11, 225lbs and my wife is 5’3 140lbs). Bananarama took extra time to fit my sister, and if my wife hadn’t got sick she would have tried again too, although as many know one bad experience to a new diver can wreck them from ever trying again! So from now on Bananarama will be the only dive shop I recommend in Roatan!

Also a shout out to Ben! Took me through my underwater navigation ! Another down to earth and great Divemaster. His chill approach and overall vibe made it such a...
