West Bay is a great beach for snorkeling and is also beautiful. The better and cleaner part is on the west, I think, were good hotels are. The eastern part is more low key and has little place to swim because of the boats. Small cottages/bungalows would be picturesque and attractive if not a sewage problem. There are pools of stinky still water that leaks in to the sea and the area smells like a public bathroom. Not only it is unpleasant but also a health issue. May be a breading ground for mosquitoes (possible malaria transmitters) or spread intestinal diseases. Even the bigger hotel like Captain Morgan has similar problem but not right on the beach. The place is especially great if you live in one of the hotels there. Otherwise you may need to buy a daypath to get to beach chairs, shower and bathroom. Busy days happen when a cruseship arrives and the beach becomes somewhat overloaded. Groups come on snorkeling excursions makes a lot of splashing and scares fish away. If you know how to swim come alone and snorkel quietly. I saw barracuda, stingray and squid. Lots of 🐠. The wall of the reef is not too far away and you can really see the...
Read moreNice beach but to many vendors to the point you can't relax. Stay on the private beach of your resort if you don't want the vendors to harass you every 3 minutes, because they can't step foot onto the resort part. Yet note vendors will STILL constantly yell out to get your attention while you're lounging, eating, spending time with your family on the resort section because it's only 6 feet away from where they can walk. If you're on a cruise you can buy a day pass from a resort to use their beach, pool, and facilities. I will never go back. I did not like someone harassing me to buy something literally every 2 minutes while I was trying to enjoy myself.
Quick tip. You can rent a car cheap at the dock and have a tour guide ride with you ALL day to show you around the island. You pay them whatever you want. The guides hang by the rental car section. Just ask if u don't see them. There are no street lights in the entire country. Most roads have no street signs and are hard to see and are narrow. You will get lost. So a guide is worth it if it's your...
Read moreWEST BAY BEACH-Roatan Island: No Shoes, No Shirt, FULL SERVICE😎That sums up the vibe of this tropical destination- beautiful, but not for my high maintenance friends 😉 The locals are warm & welcoming, we felt safe whether running early in the morning running or exploring new hikes. The island is loaded with Americans visiting from all over & many own condos & live here full/part time. The secret is out though- prices on the rise from restaurant food to the markets- double taxes on all things ordered (difficult to find fresh fruit & veggies at the markets which is something we value)-but restaurants offered a modest variety. It has been a sweet adventure☺️ we explored West End down & beyond to West Bay all the way to Lighthouse point. The airport was rough-took 2 hours to just leave due to bottleneck traffic-but again-people...
