On my way here, I read one review saying the following: “Think of the worst stay of your life: Hotel Bara is worse”. When you arrive, it seems fine until you need to get to your room. The layout can only be described as a maze with doors, where you just see a steep stairway downwards with ginormous things loaded on it - Of course, it says “do not enter”. Then, you get to broken elevators where you can see the electricity spark. The word “safety regulations” seems to not be in “Hotel” Baras vocabulary.
The rooms are nothing short of awful. The beds are somewhat comfortable, but everything (including the baths!) is moldy and dirty. Most rooms are not equipped with an AC (and those that are, you have to pay an additional charge of 20€ to unlock them). This makes the sleeping unbearable. You have to leave open the windows and even then it reminds one of a sauna. From outside, loud noises come in all the time such as a two hour long car siren from 00:00-02:00 preventing you from sleeping. When it stops, the room is still so hot, that when you put your head out of the window it still feels insanely cold outside (even though it was 27 degrees outside). If you are a fan of 12 hour long saunas, then this “hotel” might be for you. The showers were dirty and the towels stank even before usage.
The food is just as bad, while dinner was not good, it was eatable. Breakfast was mostly served cold (even the eggs) and everything looked somewhat radioactive and vomit-inducing. Water is not available in large enough quantities. It seems that they only hire chefs that cooked for a prison before as that is what it tastes like.
The only thing that I don’t have complaints about is the service - The people seemed nice (even though they mostly just don’t talk). Additionally, it is quite well located with a lot of public transport connecting it to the inner city.
Overall, I believe the aforementioned quote summarises it best: Think of the worst stay in your life - “Hotel”...
Read moreIt finally happened: I can now easily answer to question, what was your worst hotel staying ever. It was, without any doubt, Hotel Bara, Budapest.||||Bad, but not crucial:||||- There is no mini bar in the room, nor there is safe, hair dryer, shampoo;||- Wireless is creepy;||- Location is not the best, considering that you have to use public transportation to reach any point of interest (which means to pay), or to go by your car (and pay for public garage); one way or another, you have to pay 10 eur/day for hotel garage, of which you will be informed at the reception upon arrival;||- Very modest breakfast, without any variety, terrible so-called juice and worse coffee;||||Bad enough to remember for a long time:||||- There is a conference hall inside of hotel, which was used by a huge group of Japanese as a party hall. Hotel was echoed with terrifying, horrifying, “music” (that sounded similar as Serbian turbo folk). Japanese parties obviously didn’t think that conference hall is big enough, so they bust out in the receptionist hall and start to produce scary noise, screams, or something like that, apparently drunk, of course. And that last until midnight. No use to complaint to a receptionist. Speaking of receptionist, no use to ask him anything. If he was at his work place at all, mostly he was chatting on his mobile, without interest to help you on any topic.||||The worst (and more than enough to not come back here):||||- Bed is small, mattress was ready for changing many years ago: experience sleeping on the bed of nails, but be prepared. If you are not fakir from India, you will be in trouble.||||Let’s get it simple. It was not expensive, but I won’t be back, not even that it is free, not even if they pay me...
Read moreI recently concluded my stay at Hotel Bara Budapest, and regrettably, my experience left much to be desired. Here's an in-depth look at the issues I encountered:1. Misleading Room Presentation: The room I booked didn't align with the enticing photos showcased online, resulting in an unsatisfactory space for three occupants.2. Cramped Quarters: The room's size was disproportionately small, making the bed feel cramped and diminishing the overall comfort of the stay.3. Unpleasant Pillows: The provided pillows were not only uncomfortable but also displayed signs of wear and tear, contributing to a less-than-ideal rest.4. Inconvenient Fees Disclosures: Upon arriving, I noticed a disheartening policy posted at the front desk. Extra fees for room changes, use of the air conditioner, and even replacing a lost access key were prominently listed. This disclosure seemed excessive and raised concerns about the hotel's commitment to guest satisfaction.5. Inconvenient Location: My assigned room on the 5th floor was notably cramped due to architectural constraints, and the lack of an elevator to this floor contradicted the expectations set by the promotional materials. The actual room size deviated significantly from the depiction of the standard triple room.6. Service Discrepancies: Given the hotel's 3-star rating, I expected a certain level of service. However, my requests, such as changing the pillow, were met with limited staff availability. The overall room upkeep did not align with the standards anticipated from a 3-star...
