Kis Gellert Guesthouse — Hotel in Budapest

Stayed here from August 19 to August 23. Booked this based on some reviews. The property is out from the city. Had to walk a bit from the bus stop. Small rooms. OK from a budget hotel, can't expect more. I travelled with my family from Dubai. As they don't accept credit card, got local currency from Dubai. The land lady as well as the owner of the property make my last night in budapest a miserable night. All the money I had was in HUF 1000 denominations. And they refused to accept the currency. Reason, these are old notes no more in circulation.It's the same notes I spend in my three days stay. Late that night, when I took my family for dinner to a nearby restaurant I used the same currency they refused to accept. and the same currency which they refused to take is used for buying our ticket to Vienna the next day. My passport was with the land lady, and I assured this crazy owner that his bill be settled next day morning and I cannot leave without my passport, but he was keep on calling me for the money throughout the night. Finally I had to switch off my mobile. ||I have no idea why people say they are good when these guys are not friendly at all. Very rude. May be they are nice to people from Europe. Il prezzo è davvero basso per standard internazionali, ma sarebbe comunque lecito aspettarsi qualcosa in più. Quanto meno un minimo di cordialità e di cura. Molto utile il piccolo parcheggio interno, ma non si capisce perché non ci viene consegnata la chiave del cancello: l'auto non l'abbiamo usata, ma se avessimo voluto uscire o rientrare tardi non so come ci saremmo dovuti regolare. Tanto più che le comunicazioni con la proprietaria, al di là delle difficoltà di lingua, sono state sempre molto striminzite. La cordialità non è il suo forte, più di una volta ci è sembrato che le stavamo dando fastidio con la nostra sola presenza. Ci sono luci a sensore di presenza nei corridoi, ma l'aeratore del piccolo bagno non funziona. Né in stanza né in bagno c'è posto per appoggiare la valigia, supponendo sia solo una, né i vestiti, che in bagno tutti si tolgono almeno per lavarsi, ma c'è un grosso inutile televisore sul piccolo frigo, frigo assolutamente sguarnito di tutto, con una cella per il ghiaccio appena sufficiente per un mattone di ghiaccio. Fa coppia un tavolo basso, su cui però poggia un centrino e due bicchieri di vetro. Aggiungendo i tre asciugamani per due persone la dotazione della stanza è tutta qui. Pulizia e riassetto non sono previste (siamo stati 3 notti), per lenzuola abbiamo usato il sacco dei piumini. C'è una cucina comune, ma in un buio seminterrato, e pure lì ci siamo trovati a condividere silenziosi spazi con la proprietaria. I fornelli sono a gas, per fortuna di funzionamento abbastanza intuitivo, ma per sapere quale manopola accende cosa si va a naso. Per accendere abbiamo usato il nostro accendino: c'erano 4 fiammiferi a vista, altri non so se e dove. Più che in cucina val la pena mangiare nel piccolo giardino esterno, facendo attenzione agli insidiosi gradini se si hanno piatti e scodelle in mano. Tutta la struttura non è comunque in alcun modo adatta a chi ha problemi di deambulazione, mancando del tutto di ascensore o rampe, ed è tutta un erto gradino.||Insomma, 28 euro più tasse a notte sono poche, ma pure un sorriso e un po' di inventiva non costano niente. E qui 28 euro valgono ben più che da noi.||Dimenticavo: si paga solo in contanti, all'arrivo, prima ancora di sapere dove mettere l'auto e di scaricare i bagagli. Si può pagare in euro, ma non sono affatto organizzati né per il cambio (nemmeno i cinque euro di resto potevano darceli in fiorini) né tanto meno per biglietti bus, e la rivendita più vicina ci è stata indicata a più di 2km. Non sempre è agosto, piacevole a farseli a piedi. Le indicazioni su quali bus prendere e dove sono state precise, ma tenersi qualche biglietto di bus non mi sembra un impegno di magazzino così oneroso.||La struttura è in una via secondaria senza traffico nei pressi di uno svincolo stradale importante, che dà verso ponte Elisabetta. Had a great time at the Kis Gellert Guesthouse! It is not that difficult to get there to be honest, the way I used every day was to get the metro to the Széll Kálmán Tér and then the 17 or 61 tram to BAH Csomópont, then it is just a 2 minute walk around the corner to the guesthouse. But there is also a bus stop with traffic going in the direction of the city nearby too, all in all about 15 minutes to the centre. ||||My room was a bit warm even though it was February, but the windows can be opened and no doubt this could have been altered by the owner if I had asked. I slept well every night and it was clean and tidy, had a TV, wardrobe, glasses and towels, communal kitchen if needed downstairs, free WIFI, fridge and en suite to hand. All in all, unbelievable value at £75 for 5 nights - no breakfast. I was not in the room much as off sightseeing but had a great time and would stay again if in Budapest,...
