The main reason I gave them 3 stars is due to the lack of communication with the reception staff and what I mean by that is on their website and on Booking it's clearly stated that I should call in advance for a parking reservation. I did. I was told that it's not necessary and I would just park and pay when I arrive. I call the receptionist once I arrive in Hungary and ask for an early check-in. I explained that we've been driving for 16 hours. He says "No problem, but you need to pay 30 euros". I reply that it's ok and we're coming. I park at the street, struggling to pay the blue zone tax, because all the apps are in Hungarian, I spent 20 minutes paying and finally I begin to bring in the luggage.
The parking is FULL, there are no spots, and the taken spots are so small, that you are guaranteed to get a door slammed in your car. Anyway, now I have a new problem and I book a different car parking which is 2km. from the hotel, but that's not the real problem. The real problem is that we thought that we had it sorted, because someone on the phone was too lazy to book my spot or didn't care at all. All is done, I go to reception and the receptionist whom I spoke on the phone with tells me that there are no rooms available for early check-in, despite our prior phone call. He then proceeds to explain that there were no rooms when I called either, but he thought that someone would leave? Super unprofessional, because that messed up the whole morning plan that we made.
Breakfast was good, although not much variety, rooms need a bit of a touch-up since they are getting old and worn now. The double rooms doesn't feature a double bed, it features two single mattresses on a frame. The drain in the shower was clogged and there were some dirty towels. Opt for the deluxe room, the one we got was hilarious with the ceiling being in 20cm. from your head while you are laying in bed. Location is good, it's located in a shady part of the town, but close enough to the center of the city and spots you would visit.
Not much else to say, typical hotel with 3 stars at most. I don't know where the 4th...
Read moreIt is a newly reconstructed hotel. The staff was super friendly, the hotel was clean, bed was comfortable and the airco worked well. The breakfast was very delicious, after a long time I really enjoyed a great hotel breakfast with high variety of food and drinks. They kept supplying food for the whole time, so even if you go to have breakfast at 9:30 (they are until 10), you still find everything available. I really liked that they somewhat changed the hot bufet every day, so you could dry something new. Also, for the whole day there is available water, tea, variety of coffee and juices, fruits and biscuits in the lobby area. For free of charge! Although the experience was exceptional, there were still few things that I personally did not like. the location is quite dark in the evening and I could imagine women being a bit afraid to walk there alone. Don't worry tho, it is right next to a metro stop/tram station, or within a 10 minutes walk you are at a busy square at which the historical city center starts. You can reach out the city enter within a 20-30 minutes walk. Still, in the evening you find some homeless people and some drunk alcoholics within the hotel vicinity. I found the noise coming from outside of the room quite annoying. We had a room towards the street in which trams go every now and then and they are just so loud that the building is nearly shaking. I get that, not the hotel's fault, the tram railway should be reconstructed. Yet one thing to blame the hotel for: although the room doors were quite heavy and closing them felt like closing a vault, for some reason there was like a 2cm space at the bottom between the door and the floor, so not only light from the hallway got to our room, but also noise from the hallway from anyone going to/from their rooms and in the morning also from the room service cleaning other rooms around. I would understand that in an old hotel, but this one is brand new! All in all, great value for the price and I would definitely...
Read moreI chose this hotel because it is marketed as a 4 star hotel and previews reviews are pretty good. However, in my opinion and after staying in several hotels, this fits more a category of a 3 star hotel and that is the most important reason I am giving 2 stars in my review.
PROS: Rooms are large (for European standards) and staff is always helpful and available to help. Breakfast is good and included with the price paid for the stay as well as high speed internet throughout the hotel. Parking is also included for those driving.
CONS: Cleanliness is an issue (floor felt sticky and in my personal experience, a piece of cookie that was not my own, remained in the bathroom’s floor throughout my stay so I ended up waking on my slippers). Maintenance is also an issue since the shower door fell off in both mine and my family’s bathroom as well. Location feels rather unsafe with homeless and drunken people around the area at nighttime, which made me feel unsafe to walk with my children after a day of sightseeing. Room is also not that comfortable and they initially provided just 2 pillows and 2 towels for a party of 4, although this was solved when we called to obtain more pillows and towels (however, I would not expect this in q 4 star hotel). Our room was on the second floor and cigarette smoke was present at many times during the day (I have to mention that was offered to switch to a higher floor to try to compensate for this). In addition, in my particular experience when I complained about these issues, staff were receptive and apologetic but did not offer a mere discount or refund for all the inconveniences caused.
OVERALL: I would say this is a 2 or 3 star hotel and in that case, guests would not have false expectations as I did. I think there are better options out there that really fit the category of a...
