The fruit vendor sells expensive fruit and vegetables. Had their quality been good I wouldn't mind the high prices but it isn't.

The bread at the bread and cheese shop is terrible but this is the case in most bakeries in Hungary. It also sells foreign cheeses at inflated prices. Probably the only cheese that is of acceptable quality at a reasonable price is Hungarian goat cheese.

There is also a butcher and a lady that sells eggs.

The eggs are actually good and they are not expensive (110 HUF a piece).

And yes, there is a spar supermarket (probably the worst chain of supermarkets in Europe where you are always guaranteed to find low quality goods at high prices).

If you are a tourist and not aware of how low the quality of the basics every Hungarian household consumes, do come here and see it...

Although not as famous as the " Central Market Hall " this market is more famous amongst locals and offers great bargain on local specialities

Some interesting facts about Rákóczi Square Market

🏛 It was built in 1894 and designed by István Rozinay and Pál Klunzinger. The hall opened to customers in 1897

📍The market hall itself has been open since 1897 but was renovated in 1991. You can find Rákóczi Square Market (or Rákóczi Tér Market) opposite the Rákóczi Tér subway station.

🕚Open: Monday from 6 am to 4 pm, Tuesday–Friday from 6 am to 6 pm, Saturday from 6 am to 1 pm (closed on Sundays) . . . . *Some facts have been copied from hotels.com...

I live near the Rákóczi Market Hall, which is the second largest market hall in Budapest and was built in 1894. It’s located behind the M4 metro entrance at Rákóczi Square. I visit the market hall frequently and I mainly go to Spar for vegetables and groceries, but I see a lot of people buying things from other shops and stalls that offer local specialties especially cheese, meat products and vegetables. I don’t know if they accept card or not, because I prefer digital payment that’s why I opt for Spar. The market hall is a historic and charming place, with unique doors and a clock on top of the tower, but it seems like only a few shops are up and...

This market is a extremely smaller version of the Central Market Hall. Aside from the beautiful building architecture, I didn't find much interest here unfortunately. We arrived around 9am in the morning but the market was dead. A lot of stores were not open. We thought we were perhaps too early so we decided to come back again later in the day. We stopped by again around 2 pm and the market looked the same as it did in the morning. I am not sure if this is because we went on the wrong day but I didn't think this market was worth visiting.

Mercado ideal para hacer compras de productos frescos y de calidad. El trato es muy bueno y además no hay mucha aglomeracion de gente. Recomiendo una visita para ver los productos, os vais a sorprender

We got there late afternoon, mid-week, so only a few stores were open. I expect it’s much busier at the weekend. In the Palace district, great prices as it’s non-touristy. All the stores-keepers and staff were unfailingly lovely and friendly and took the time to give us samples. They also have clean loos. Highly recommended.
