Recently, we stayed at Boi-er Baari (The House of Books) for 12 days. This is the first time we stayed away from home while visiting my hometown Kolkata. We could not have asked for anything better. We have traveled to many parts of the world and stayed at many places. Boi-er Baari is one of the best homestays we have stayed. The house is located in a quiet part of Salt Lake and at the same time, just a few steps away from the main street. I came across the Boi-er Baari while looking for a homestay on the internet and love the atmosphere by looking at the photos posted on their website. The whole reservation process was very efficiently and professionally handled by Mrs. Supriya Chattopadhyay. We rented the whole second floor. It was very clean and restful, and wonderfully decorated with books. The name “Boi-er Baari” says it all! The bedrooms were large with attached bathrooms. All the amenities are there to make one feel at home. The breakfast was included in the price and Supriya provided a very thought-out warm delicious breakfast every morning along with many of our favourite sweets. We had also requested dinner for most nights, and we were not disappointed.
Thank you to Raja for his great company. I promise to play with him during our next stay. Thank you to Mr. Chattopadhyay for his warmth and friendliness. Above all, thank you so much, Supriya, for your wonderful friendliness, warmth, and hospitality. We hope to stay again during our next visit.
Following is the review by my wife: "Attention to details" should be the perfect description for this homestay which is so carefully maintained by Supriya. The homestay is extremely clean, organized without being fussy. It felt like a home away from home with all things in the right places. The hostess paid great attention to the hot breakfast that she prepared every morning and affectionately reminded us to finish the seasonal fruits. She ensured we tasted all the good seasonal fruits and sweets she prepared so thoughtfully. Most days we also requested her to prepare our dinner for the reasonable price that she charged. Her meals were thoughtfully cooked with so much attention.
Supriya was there to greet us very early in the morning on the day we checked in and also to say goodbye late at night as we checked out. Yes, she made us feel so much at home. Most of all, we had access to all the books and it felt good to wake up early each morning to read some of her collections.
This homestay is located in a quiet area and at the end of each day this home felt like a quiet refuge for us. Last but not the least, there was Raja who startled us occasionally with his loud bark. But he is a friendly and adorable wise soul to be around. We will be back for sure. Stay well Raja and everyone at Boi er Bari. Thank you Supriya for all...
Read moreI had to be in Kolkata between February 18 to 22, 2021 to attend a family marriage. For logistics convenience, I was looking for a decent accommodation in Salt Lake area to stay all the 4 nights. Someone mentioned about a place called “Boi-er-baari” on which I could find quite a few good reviews in different travel & tourism sites. I could manage to get the contact number and spoke to the owner, Mrs. Chatterjee and booked a room for me. Boi-er-baari is a wonderful homestay – picture perfect. Basically, an old 3 storeyed bungalow situated in a corner plot at a peaceful residential part of Salt Lake in Kolkata, has been converted to a cosy homestay. The family of the owner continue to occupy part of the ground floor and the 1st floor where one room each has been dedicated as guest room and 2nd floor have 3 guest rooms. However, since the outbreak of the pandemic only the 2nd floor rooms are being offered to guests. I was lucky to get an airy 2nd floor room with a beautiful balcony overseeing the garden on the ground floor and the road in front. All the facilities provided are just what is expected from a well-managed homestay and for me it was like a homecoming after 40 years. The family takes complete care of the guests. I met another guest from Chennai who has been staying there for the 3rd time and spoke highly about everything including the dinner. Since I was attending a marriage ceremony, I was only having breakfast there and I must admit it was sumptuous. The most noteworthy aspect of this Boi-er-baari is of course the Boi i.e. books. It has a huge collection of English and Bengali Books nicely displayed all around. I haven’t seen in my life such artistic wall décor with framed photographs of book covers or famous paintings from popular books. I am an avid book lover and all the four mornings I spent there I was hooked into one or other books taken from the shelves. I sincerely recommend this place for those who are tired of staying in hotels which are lifeless and artificial even if they are star rated. If someone wants to enjoy staying in a homelike accommodation and enjoy reading books, there is no better place than Boi-er-baari. One has to stay here for at least 2 nights to enjoy a memorable...
