Long review alert coz this one deserves it for it's eye for each lil detail!
This falls under the list of the places, the beauty of which cannot be captured by lens. They have focused on every little aspect at every corner of the place. It feels exactly like home. You just have to bring your clothes n hop in! And let me tell you tha the toiletries are also made in house and the quality is just amazing. You can even buy it from the trunk shop inside the house of MG. The washroom smells of sandalwood just like my home. And it so calming! They place fresh flowers in each room! There is a private balcony and an open space for each room! This is not a regular conventional hotel , this is truly a heritage stay restored with rich culture. There is art in every corner and the owner is truly fond of collecting art pieces from all around and even help the local artisans by displaying their work of art. The indoor pool is BEAUTIFUL! Let me warm you that you will get lost while exploring the place and would stop at each step to absorb the beauty(not at all exaggerating). The hospitality is just so homely, do whatever you want, be wherever you wish, this place is here to spoil you just like the comforts of your home. There is a well I'm each washroom and the hotel is very mindful of it's energy conservation. The gym is adequate and placed in a beautiful corner. Gym and kids corner are furnished with mats so that the workouts and playtime are injury free. The sunsets and sunrises are beautiful to capture from the terrace. Food is Soo authentic and amazing! I am a gujju and I would still only prefer to order gujju here coz it takes you to different experiential state. This is not a stay, this is an experience to cherish. Its no surprise to me that the guests are often frequent visitors and I am also definitely going to come back to this place time and again!
For new mom's, you will love this place as it'll.lrt your kid enjoy over hours as you enjoy your self love time in spas or just long sleep! I know you need just that :)
Go ahead if you want to understand the difference between heritage hotel and other commercial ones. (You can even go ahead to their famous agashiya hotel for their excellent authentic gujju food without...
Read moreBeautiful rooms but service was a let down.
ROOMS: 4/5 Being a former palace, the rooms had grand proportions, the bedroom had a swing in it and the bathroom was the size of most bedrooms. There were great touches to hide modern equipment such as wooden boxes made around the light/fan switches and a wooden antique wardrobe built into the wall - it was too small to be of use but a nice touch.
There were no blackout blinds in the bedroom and the curtains were very flimsy, unfortunately our bedroom overlooked the restaurant and busy main road beyond so light and noise constantly came into our room.
LOCATION: 3/5 Set on a busy roundabout on a main road, opposite a well visited mosque meant it was noisy and polluted. There were several restaurants a stone's throw away and getting a rickshaw was easy as there were plenty going past but the short moments spent standing on the "street" negotiating fares etc were pretty tense.
SERVICE & FACILITIES: 2/5 The hotel had a small but functional gym, a ridiculously overpriced restaurant - similar food served across the road at a quarter of the price - and a nice looking pool which was too cold for us to swim in.
Service was a real disappointment, simple requests needed two to three phone calls to check on, for example, it took several hours and numerous reminders before Ethan's bed was finally delivered, meaning a delayed bedtime and all the things that follow on from that. I did complain about the service and saw a short-lived improvement before normal (bad) service resumed.
The staff were friendly enough, especially the porters and cleaning staff.
VALUE FOR MONEY: 2/5 This was an expensive place to stay, around £125 per night for a grand suite with breakfast. If the service and location matched the standard of the rooms, it would have been money well spent but taking that into consideration, I feel like there are better options available.
A BIT ABOUT US: We're currently on a four month trip around Asia & the South Pacific with our 3 year old son, if you'd like to read more reviews, search for Ethans Day to find our blog and...
Read moreHoMG is a beautiful boutique hotel. It’s like an oasis amidst the hustle of Ahmedabad. Check in was efficient but we discovered that there was a problem with their credit card machine and WiFi. For a 1 night stay for business this was a small issue as we needed to roam. There was no offer from the hotel or service recovery. ||The rooms are beautiful and large. Fans in the living room and bathroom. Great communal gardens and lots of areas to walk around to admire the heritage. ||I checked in late afternoon following a 4 hour car journey from Bhavnagar. ||I opted for a quick 30 min massage before they closed at 2000 and this was very good. ||Dinner was thali at Ayshigae. I think the flavours didn’t suit us 100% as a number of the dishes were on the sweeter side but understand this is a hallmark of cuisine in Gujarat. The setting was fantastic and waiters all very efficient and helped guide on the dinner. ||Breakfast was very good in the Green House. It was a quick one as we had an early flight up catch but the service was good and prompt. The credit card issue persisted the next day so they could not take payment for the taxi drop off to AMD airport. Asked me to do a bank transfer instead via roaming. Unfortunately it would take my bank 4 hours to see up a new beneficiary so that didn’t work. The young gent at reception did not seem particularly helpful but after persisting , managed to get the machine to work. ||I did an evening tour with Mr Ali the resident guide of HoMG. Very informative and got to see the other two properties owned by HoMG. ||In summary clearly a lovely and amazing property and if the service levels can be raised it has the real potential...
