I have visited Prems Homestay twice. 1st time in October 2012 and 2nd time in August 2014.1st visit was with friends and 2nd one with Family.both the times we stayed in the ground floor.Prem and his daughters are very helpful to the guests and make you feel you are staying in your close relatives home. They would help you with anyting they can. Last time when i was there i had a jolly scooter ride with Prem uncle. Though the purpose was only to pack some food we roamed around fort cochin. Restaurant right in front of prems house served some delicious food. Most of the tourist attractions in fort cochin are within a walkable distance from prems place. The auditorium which hosts daily cultural shows of Kathakali and Indian dances is just next door.Prem can book the show tickets for you in advance. You can even book tickets for half day/oneday/overnight house boat tours nearby. He would give you a reasonable price. Coming to the rooms. I found them clean, neat and fresh. Bathrooms are clean too and had showers.Hot water source was solar water heater so in the night you dont have hot water you can ask prem, they would provide it to you separately. Take the ground floor rooms if you have aged companions who cannot climb ststairs. Overall I strongly suggest Prems home stay for anyone who wants a decent accommodation in Fort Cochin at...
Read moreThe hosts are very friendly but the rooms are poorly maintained.
All the mosquito nets on the windows were broken at various points. So of course mosquitoes in the room. No mosquito machine only coil which everyone can't use due to smoke. The kitchen space with room was really dirty. It's okay to not have it functional but to have such dirty space attached to rooms made my parents and me feel very bad.
Many lights were unfunctional. Not enough chairs to sit. Very old pillows. Bed linen was average and didn't feel very clean. One of the rooms' toilet jet was so broken it was almost like having shower. Couldn't imagine having such hand jet in a toilet. Must be repaired before providing to anyone. Many other little things also needed repair.
Cleaning not available every day.
Parking on the main road a bit away from house with neighbors creating problems about parking in front of their gates.
The host was very friendly and allowed us to use her kitchen for making tea. We did use it once. But must maintain the house rigorously before...
Read moreStayed here as two couples. We originally booked a family room, but upon arrival, Celia said we could change so we have two separate rooms, which we obviously took her up on.||||The location is pretty good as you have many many restaurants within a 5 minute walk and the Chinese fishing nets are a further 10 minutes. ||||The rooms were basic but pretty decent. Hard solid beds with not much of a pillow, but you do get a great nights sleep. The shower works great too and a western toilet is always very welcomed!!||||Celia will allow guests to store food and drinks in her kitchen, as well as provide breakfast for them (for an additional cost).||||Unfortunately this whole area is absolutely riddled with mosquitoes, and even with precautions in place our whole gang were bitten at least 20 times in an hour. ||Also the laundry is quite expensive at 15 rupees an item, but others close by are triple...
