To begin with, this hotel was the worst experience of my life! Be it in terms of cleanliness or the friendliness of its staff and it's management! In fact as soon as they started showing me the rooms I realised I had gotten myself into a filthy, dingy and horrible place! None of the rooms nor the beds/linens were clean(in fact filthy), nor the bathrooms were appropriately fitted/furnished(horrendously fitted commodes, shady old floorings/tiles etc). In fact within a few minutes I realised this was one of the worst properties that I had chosen by sheer mistake. But unfortunately, I had already made the booking through the Yatra App which is the worst travel app that I have ever used. This was a non-cancellable booking and to make matters worse, these fraud Yatra guys don't even any telephonic customer support to assist customers in such situations. Hence, I decided to manage the day and opted for the better room amongst the worser ones that I was shown. After all the initial pains, I was told the room was a single occupancy booking though I had specified double occupancy while booking on the app. The receptionist then began giving me some contact numbers of Yaatra personnel with whom I was expected to sort this out. This was another harrowing experience trying to explain everything repeatedly to multiple people who turned out to be so unprofessional evading any responsibilty, and asked me to write an email without even trying to assure the customer of a positive resolution. And mind you, Yaatra doesn't have a telephone helpline or call centre which means you're literally at the mercy of the hotel! By the time I was done with all the unsuccessfull discussions with the Yaatra staff, prices for the same hotel/same rooms had shot up on the Yaatra app and the management were expecting me to shell out extra money for the additional person. There was absolutely no sensitivity or empathy shown by the hotel staff and it's management for whatever a customer was going through the since the moment he had walked in. Despite all the negotiations and sensible discussions that I tried having with their caretaker manager lady, she was unrelenting, unprofessional and apathetic after which I decided to check out immediately. Technically, I was not checked into the hotel since they were still trying to sort the room and booking related issues. Yet, they weren't willing to even initiate any discussions with Yatra and help me sort the issue or offer me some discount which was utterly insensitive and inhuman on their part. In fact, the least they could have done was to accommodate my partner without expecting me to pay extra and then either sorted it with the Yatra folks or maybe try and see if they could atleast offer me some reduction. But alas, these guys were as sick and cheap as their dingy hotel and as greedy as their staff/manager to even empathize with the customer and I had to lose close to 4k for a few hours of harassment and inconvenience that I had to go through at this pathetic place. In fact, I would try and update my feedback on every website possible so this serves as an alert to every other travelers/visitors to Kolkata and dissuades people from every opting for this...
Read moreI had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Roland during my recent trip, and overall I had a positive experience. The hotel's best feature is definitely its location, which is convenient for accessing many attractions in the area. Additionally, the hotel offers all the amenities one could need during their stay, making it a great option for travelers.
One of the standout features of the hotel is its on-site restaurant. Although I didn't have a chance to try it myself, I heard from other guests that the food was excellent, and the ambiance of the restaurant was quite pleasant.
The staff at Hotel Roland were also very cooperative and helpful, making my stay more enjoyable. They were quick to respond to any questions or requests that I had, and overall were very friendly.
However, there were a few issues that I noticed during my stay. Firstly, I would recommend that guests check their towels for cleanliness, as some of the towels in my room were not as clean as I would have liked. That being said, when I requested replacements, the staff were very accommodating and promptly provided me with new towels.
Another issue that I encountered was that the hotel could benefit from a light revamp. The bathroom in my room, in particular, could have been a bit cleaner and more updated. Additionally, there were some issues with the telephone in my room, which was not functioning properly.
Overall, I would recommend Hotel Roland to travelers looking for a convenient and comfortable place to stay. While there were some minor issues, the hotel's excellent location, amenities, and friendly staff more than made up for any shortcomings.
Pros:
Excellent location
All necessary amenities provided and fast WIFI
On-site restaurant with good food and ambiance
Friendly and cooperative staff
Cons:
Towels in some rooms may not be clean
Hotel needs some light renovation, particularly in the bathrooms

Read moreI stayed at this hotel from the evening of 26th February to the morning of 29th February. The location of this hotel is exceptional with Rabindra Sadan metro station, Victoria Memorial, Netaji Bhavan and US consulate office at very close proximity.Although a bit costly, their food service is excellent. But one issue is that there's quite a lot of choice for breakfast but the choice for lunch and dinner isn't that much and one very funny thing is that for breakfast the guests should go to the banquet hall and eat but for lunch and dinner the banquet hall is closed if a guest wants lunch and dinner he/she should choose from the menu card given in the room and contact the reception for delivery to the room and most of the rooms are too small to sit and eat in the room. Now one thing what I didn't like about this hotel was that the evening we arrived there, we were given a room with an attached bathroom which had no geyser(Room no 305) and so we had to shift to another room on the same floor(Room no 307) but that room was too small and finally the staff gave us another vacant room on the fourth floor(Room no 405) and that room was fairly big enough but not that spacious where two people can sit and eat comfortably. So I would recommend the hotel management to please open the banquet hall for lunch and...
