I found the place and the room claustrophobic. The smoke of the cigarettes smoked in the ground floor reception has only one way to escape - up, so the smoke rises and spreads into all the rooms and continues going up. The window a/c in the room was making industrial level noises. Impossible for anyone to sleep. The window itself didn't have a latch so the work of the a/c was being made pointless as it was a couple of inches open. The view from the window is to another building. This is the 3rd floor room. The bathroom is clean and the bed is alright. Remember to make sure you really, really, really want to stay at this place, before you give them any money. Even if they don't officially check you in (i.e., they keep your ID for scan and say that they will return it later + they haven't yet registered you in their guest book), because if you give them money, and change your mind, like 15 mins in my case, the owner will not return you a single rupee. I lost 1500/- like that. I asked the owner to keep 500, or 700 or 1000 even, but he was very clear - he won't return a thing. The young chap working at the reception is a lovely bloke. That's the only saving grace. The owner is from the planet of money. I would skip this place, walk along the ghats, and select another ghat facing a/c room for the...
Read moreI chose this hotel/hostel because of its reasonable price and good location. However, there was something very peculiar about the management of this hostel. Despite that I paid whatever costs were asked of me, it really felt as if I were living with my mom. I am 43 years old and travel extensively. My privacy was seriously interrupted and I don't expect that kind of treatment from a place of lodging. Additionally, I am not at all a fussy person, but the cleanliness of the room was quite terrible, especially the washroom. I suppose you get what you pay for, but there wasn't even a shower in the bathroom. This hostel advertised that it has wifi, but it was so non-functional that I needed to use my own 4G SIM in order to get any internet connectivity. While the manager was polite, I cannot in any good conscious advise anyone to stay here. There are very clean and hospitable guest houses with good wifi and a shower (and a TV, if you care about that) for the exact same price, just three minutes walk from Ganga Fuji Hostel. If you do choose to stay at Ganga Fuji hostel, with your own private room, it is not worth more than 400 rupees per night. Negotiate hard, or...
