We stayed at the Elgin, Darjeeling for 3 nights. We had a premium room, at the lower level, in the Tenzing building. The hotel had already told us there isn't a good view from the room; it had 1 window facing a road.||The hotel is in a good location; about 5 min walk from the central touristy location (char rasta). But walking on roads in Darjeeling is a pain, because the roads are narrow and there is constant traffic.||The hotel reception staff were helpful, first with the booking and during our stay (checkin, checkout, etc.). There are 2 buildings where the rooms are located; it is better to get a room in the same building as the reception since it has better access to the sitting area, restaurant and bar. We were in the Tenzing building, which is a short walk away, which can be a bit of an inconvenience if it is cold or raining.||The room was pretty spacious, with a bed (it was 2 small beds joined together and there are 2 twin mattresses with a small gap), 2 chairs, small table, TV. The bed was definitely not up to the mark: the mattresses were soft, bedsheet was too small so it would come off from under the mattress, the comforter was old & worn out without a proper cover. There was no central heating; there was a room heater which takes time to heat the room. There is no desk. This is an old hotel, with its charm, etc. but that also means that there are some small inconveniences. The bathroom was refurbished, so there was a geyser which provided hot water, a bath tub and a stall shower. There were some basic supplies like soap, sewing ket, dental kit - no shaving kit, limited towels. There is a small closet inside the bathroom with a small storage.||Housekeeping doesn't do a thorough job; there was dirt in several places, including on the mirror in the bathroom. On our first day, there was no tea/coffee in the room; they provided it after we called.||We ordered room service once, and it was fast. We had breakfast at the restaurant every day; breakfast is basic but good - juices, cereals, baked items, eggs, some Indian items like poha, idli, etc. We had dinner once and it was a big disappointment - the parathas were hard like papads. They also told us that dinner had to be pre-ordered before 7:30pm, but didn't tell us they have a buffet dinner. It was hard to understand the pricing, some common items were very expensive, and some other items like Indian curries were cheap.||Overall, the room was functional, most of the staff was helpful and nice. We stayed at Mayfair during our previous trip and that was better (in the same...
Read moreWe were family of 8 booked 4 rooms well in advance and we reached at 1.45 to hotel for check in as in previous stay we were told that the rooms were allotted on 1st come basis. We were told that we are being given room on 3 rd floor and there is no lift We told the front office ,one Mr Badal Mazumdar, that we cannot go up but he said that no rooms re available and he is giving rooms together Myself and brother had beck pain but still we climbed 3 floors where we were informed that only 2 rooms are there on 3rd floor and 2 rooms are no 4 th floor.
In the meantime 2 more families checked in and they were given rooms on lower floors. We refused to accept rooms and there was argument then he said he got 2 rooms on 1 st floor. We agreed and waiting for keys on 1st floor and we heard he saying to his colleagues that he didn’t like our tone Nd he will make us to pay for it. We really got scared as they are the locals. Then we were being told that on 1 st floor room is in another wing. We had no choice and we were scared and we greed for the same.
Pros Property is good and most of the staff is courteous. Rooms have quality stuff. Food is good but have very limited spread. Location is very good but congested and covered with black teen Sheets
Cons of staying in heritage property No view. We went to hills and booked this property basis some of the reviews that view is good. It is good from Lawn but no view from rooms Low ceiling height of 7 feet or so. Low height in staircase Nd for sure your head will bang if you are taller than average. Roshndan or windows in ceiling which will not allow you to sleep from sun rise till sun set as light will come on bed. Light buttons are not near bed Nd you have to get up for switching on/off Charging points are near flooring and not suitable for 2 pin chargers. Requiring you to bend or sit on floor to plug Flooring is wooden which makes lot of noise when you walk. If you have other in room sleeping then the will surely wake up No lift as it is 5 plus floor building Inconvenient or not suitable for old age or people with medical issues. No AC or fan in the room. It may be suffocating at times

Read moreDarjeeling is the Queen of the Hills! It's a place I proudly flaunt. When I was small I always wanted to stay at the most luxurious place in Darjeeling. And that had to be Elgin Darjeeling. We had got the best room of Elgin Darjeeling. When we reached this impeccable beauty we were served with refreshing welcome drinks. This place is absolutely so beautiful situated just amidst the heart of Darjeeling very close to the Darjeeling main market area with a stupendous view from the rooms. The place itself is a heritage property and is extremely luxurious. The architecture is very beautiful and bears a fine imprint of history and culture. The lounge area is beautifully adorned with fine stuffs, having spacious seating arrangements, a bar section and ofcourse an amazing outdoor view. The room that we had stayed in was a suite with two big rooms, a giant television, two luxurious washrooms with bathtubs and all needful accessories. The room heater was there to use according to comfort. Not to forget the WiFi, the munchings kept for the midnight hunger pangs. All needs of the guests are perfectly taken care over here. The room gives an amazing view as well. The service is prompt and the staff are so friendly. We reached there to enjoy the High-Tea. It was indeed a flamboyant affair. It consisted of pastries, cookies, muffins, scones, fritters along with the amazing Darjeeling tea.
For dinner we had continental food. We had different types of salads like potato mustard salad, corn capsicum salad.
Chicken garlic soup which was so delectable. Next for starters we had vegetable pantheras and grilled fish in lemon sauce. The pantheras were absolutely lipsmacking and is still my favorite. The fish was soft and juicy perfectly cooked. Their hospitality while we enjoyed the food was amazing! Honestly made me feel the best. For main course we had Spaghetti bolognese Roasted Chicken Loved each of the dishes which were prepared with utmost care. The dessert had mango mousse and choco brownie.
My dinner experience was scrumptious.
One can stroll after dinner for a nice walk amidst nature in this place itself. Was here for one night but I loved every moment that I...
