HOTEL REVIEW: I organised a birthday party here for 5 days with 21 people. There were long wait times between emails (5-7 days) when I was trying to liaise with the hotel, which was frustrating.
In the run up to the trip the hotel weren’t particularly helpful. Initially they wouldn’t offer a group discount, then said they would, but when any of the group emailed them about the discount, they were told there wasn’t one, which was very frustrating. Furthermore the fluctuation in their pricing was outrageous. One day a basic room would be £250/night, then it would be £150, then £77!!!!
Not once was my boyfriend’s birthday acknowledged, despite all the planning and contact I’d had with the hotel. Eventually I commented on this on the last night, and when we came back from dinner they’d put a cake in the room and some towel “sculptures”, which were very cute. The housekeeping staff were also really lovely.
I wanted to have our “welcome drinks” at the Tree Bar. The hotel insisted I book an area, but wanted to £250 for this, so we just showed up and it all worked out and we were able to take over an area. The staff in the restaurant and bar were always extremely helpful and kind.
I cannot eat gluten and dairy. At every breakfast and afternoon tea I was told “we’ll make sure we have pancakes and snacks you can eat tomorrow.” They even took down my room number. Not once did this happen. However there is a good variety of food and juices for breakfast, including 3 types of Jamu.
The restaurant menu could do with being bigger.
The pool and spa are lovely. The location is fantastic.
We were upgraded, which was a wonderful surprise. We had a lagoon room, which was great for when we wanted to be in the pool and away from everyone. The room was really lovely.
We used the cake shop for the Birthday cake and everyone said it was delicious.
SPA REVIEW: I don’t like massages as I have very painful, sensitive muscles. This was a gift to me and I AM SO GRATEFUL. Adnyani is amazing and listened to everything I told her about my pain and sensitivity. The massage was so wonderful, especially the foot massage. I fell asleep and now feel like a new woman!! Read moreThis was my very first trip to Bali, and I chose Sanur as my first destination. I had the pleasure of staying at Maya Sanur Resort, and I must say—it was absolutely breathtaking.
From the moment we arrived, everything exceeded my expectations. The hotel is the most well-equipped and beautifully maintained 5-star property I’ve ever stayed in. Our room was spacious, clean, and extremely comfortable—truly a place that makes you feel at home. The ambiance throughout the resort was refreshing and serene. The pool was stunning, with a beautiful view that we couldn’t get enough of. The food? Absolutely delicious—each meal was a delightful experience.
But what truly made our stay special was the warm and thoughtful staff. We were greeted by a lovely young woman wearing a black t-shirt who welcomed us with a bright smile and genuine care. She asked about us, offered refreshing “fermented pineapple” drinks (which were amazing!), and accompanied us to our room. Her name tag read Desta, but she introduced herself as Kirana—a name she prefers. Kirana was not only beautiful but also incredibly kind and intelligent. She explained the hotel facilities clearly, made us feel comfortable, and even interacted sweetly with our children especially impressive since one of them had just recovered from an illness. I was especially moved when I learned that Kirana is also learning Spanish—her passion and curiosity were inspiring. Her joyful personality left a deep impression on all of us. Our kids adored her, and so did we. The Kids Club at the resort was also fantastic and kept the little ones entertained. Sadly, I didn’t get to see Kirana again during check-out. But I truly hope to return to Maya Sanur Resort on my next holiday in Bali. It was a perfect start to our journey, and the experience will stay with us forever.
Highly recommended to anyone visiting Bali for the first time or the hundredth. Maya Sanur...

We stayed at Maya Sanur as a family. The hotel design is stunning with lush greenery, creating a jungle-like atmosphere (though we missed the sounds of birds and animals).
We experienced a slight delay in receiving our room after the standard check-in time. Unfortunately, the initial room had a damp and musty odor. However, the hotel responded promptly by conducting a deep clean and providing a humidifier, which resolved the issue. This may have been due to high occupancy and limited time for thorough cleaning between guests.
The amenities were generally good, including a well-stocked minibar (though we found the prices with tax and service charge to be quite high).
The breakfast area and the dipping pool were often crowded. While the buffet offered good variety with options for dietary needs (gluten-free, vegan), we found table service to be inconsistent. Empty plates and glasses were sometimes slow to be cleared, and our iced coffees were twice served without straws.
The beach access is unique, located behind the hotel and offering swimming among local fishing boats.
We tried the spa, but the massage service felt underwhelming despite the standard service process.
We didn't observe any managers actively walking around the property during our stay.
As our visit was during the rainy season, we found it inconvenient that umbrellas were not provided in the rooms, requiring us to borrow one from reception.
Overall, Maya Sanur has the potential to be excellent. By paying closer attention to guest expectations, such as improving table service, addressing minor maintenance issues, and enhancing the spa experience, they can significantly enhance the guest experience.
Terimakasih banyak for having us! Hope to see...
