KOKOYA Japanese Restaurant — Restaurant in Denpasar Selatan

Just facts, no emotion... Walked up and waived at the host/waiter; they smiled and gestured with their finger that they would be right with us. The place was packed so we waited at the front for 15m -- all good, it happens.

A table free'd up in the front so we waited for it to get cleared for 10m. Since it wasn't getting cleared (and because other people were stacking up behind us in line and we were hungry), I cleared the table and we sat down. We waited for 10m for anyone to come to us. Once they gave us the menus, we waited another 10m to get water and/or order, but when the server came over, she simply said: "we'll be right with you". We waited another 10m at an empty table watching everyone else get served, watching other guests in line at the door being ignored -- We ended up leaving.

Its more unfortunate because we were about to spend a LOT of money at this establishment for a table of 6, but we ended up going elsewhere. Unfortunate for the restaurant...

Another hidden gem in Sanur! At first I was sceptical about the ambiance, but once the food came out, it really blew me out of the water. The food was great, the sashimi is super fresh and even the ocha tastes nice too, which is hard to come by in Bali. It was too good to the point that I forgot to make a review and chow down to two of the sushi in the Oyakodon set. What makes it more interesting is the pricing, relatively cheaper than most Japanese restaurants.

The only critique I would give is probably that they would need a little renovation, to freshen up the infrastructure. It doesn't really give a friendly first impression, even though all the staff inside was really nice. Other than that, truly an...

This nice little Japanese restaurant is located in Sanur right at the start of the more busy area along the main street for tourists and businesses. The food was great, we had an assortment of sushi, Maki and spicy rolls accompanied by a avocado shrimp salad. The place itself was not crowded and the service was good, fast and friendly. For taste, service and location there is no doubt that it should have 5 stars but it is a little bit expensive even for Bali / Sanur IMHO, that's why I tend to give 4 stars (25 € ~420k idr for 2, no dessert 1 beer 1 water). If it does not matter much then definitely you should try it out - you won't be...
