Pearl of Trawangan — Hotel in Gili Trawangan

Incredible resort which has everything one would want for an island vacation stay. Highly Recommended as it ticks all boxes. The location is very nice and in the calm part, walkable to most places, the beach is absolutely amazing, the pool is nice, and the rooms pretty basic but comfortable and very good AC, the bathrooms are spacious and very good water pressure. WIFI was very strong and good coverage across the resort and beach. The restaurant has a very good variety and their rates are very competitive and better than those of other restaurants. The staff are super nice, friendly, and very helpful. Would highly recommend staying here. The detailed review is posted below:

Check-In: was super efficient. We took the morning Ferry so reached the resort at 10 AM. They checked us in immediately, gave an interesting welcome drink, and stored our luggage till room would be ready at 2 PM. They shifted our luggage to the room once it became available as we came back to resort around 4 Pm.

Room: Room style is very nice and is very big, furnishing is old and very basic, bed is just ok and shakes a bit, AC seems very old but is mighty effective. The closet was really big and spacious. The safe is very old but works fine. TV was a flat screen and had plenty of channels including some international channels as well. Each room has a covered patio in front with a big lounger and a chair and table.

Bathroom: The bathroom was almost as big as the room and has that open air style, which is pretty nice. There is no bidet next to the toilet 🚽. The shower has 2 heads the rain shower and the hand held. Water pressure was amazing and you need to keep the tap on the cold side other the hot water can burn. The Hair dryer was big but pressure was very poor. Would take hours to dry long hair. The bathroom amenities were decent and all provided in the bathroom.

Restaurant: The breakfast is served from a set menu where you can only choose 1 item, it’s not ideal in quantity but somewhat filling. They serve breakfast juice in a small glass but you get 1 refill. The best part is that juices are freshly squeezed. The restaurant has amazing view of the beach and the road. It has two floors, and the restaurant is very popular as both days saw people from the street stopping by to have breakfast. Their food items are priced very competitively and found the. To be much better than a lot of other places with this standard.

Facilities: Pool is nice a big, plus has a lot of loungers, so you would almost always get space. The beach is right across the road and for hotel guest loungers and towels are free. The best turquoise colored water. However there is a lot of dried coral so would recommend wearing beach shoes to avoid foot injury. The bicycles rental seems quite high so would not recommend renting from them. However they have a huge bike parking stand and you can also park your bike outside your room.

Snorkeling Trip: There is an independent vendor selling island hopping and snorkeling trip right outside which the resort personnel also recommend. However please note the vendor is private and has nothing to do with the resort. We booked the trip, and bargained a lot and got a good deal including GoPro video footage underwater. They are nice people but be smart and don’t believe all that say, and ensure they have everything they committed to on the boat before they leave the port.

Location: It’s a 7 to 10 minute walk from the harbor. Would be another 15 to 20 minute walk to the sunset spots. There is a side walk, ample sea breeze, and really peaceful and colorful vibe in the street. If you can’t walk then the front desk will call a horse cart for you which is again on the pricier side. Also this is in a peaceful part so very calm and restful vibe across the resort.

Staff: The staff get 5 stars for being very nice, polite, super helpful, and Uber respectful. Almost 80% can understand and speak basic English throughout the resort, while front desk and some restaurant staff are well versed in English.

A good friend of mine recommended Pearl to me and it looked great! So having booked the accommodation 5 months previous to my arrival the handling of my booking was beyond a joke. On the 23rd of December 3 days before my arrival I was contacted to say the payment hadn't gone through as there was a "system error" and that if I didn't provide a picture both back and front of my credit card, a picture of my passport and a physically signed copy of their credit form my booking would be cancelled (bare in mind my date of arrival was the 26th of December & I was travelling with no laptop so printing, signing and scanning any document would be very hard to do). So after doing everything that was asked of me, which I found totally unnecessary considering Pearl had my credit card details from the initial booking, I then confirmed with Ida Royani on the 23rd via email and phone that my booking was confirmed and the money had came out. 6 I then receive another email on The morning of the 24th, Sandra from reservations contacted me this time to say the exact same, that if I didn't pay today or send the signed documents and pictures my booking will be cancelled but bare in mind I confirmed over the phone on 23rd Dec everything was in place and had received an email to say the same. Then to my disbelief on the 25th of December I get another short, rude and very blunt email to say today is the last day if no payment is made you cannot stay with us, again my payment was already received by Pearl 2 days previous to this. After explaining on arrival to the manager Damis about my situation he said he would see what he could do to compensate me after putting me under very unnecessary stress over Christmas and on my holiday with threatening to cancel my booking. Damis sent 4 stale cookes to my room as a sign of apology and said there was no more he could do for us to apologise for the hotels sheer idiotic and rude behavior. The handling of this was beyond deplorable! The place is a total rip off in comparison to other places on the island, it looks amazing but you don't just pay a nice place, you pay for service also which we didn't receive in anyway shape or form! We were also told they could not arrange a pick up for us at the port as its easy to get transport on arrival, but we noticed multiple guys standing with placards with people's names on it for different hotels, a simple request that they could not fulfill. The toilet in the hotel blocked after day 1 and this issue was not resolved for us throughout our stay which left our room smelling of sweage. We are respectable guests who have travelled the world and never have encountered a 5 star hotel with such deplorable rules and keeping. There is plenty more I could say about this place, but rest assured I would never advise anyone to stay here after seeing the many other hotels on the island for half the price and much better service! Our stay at Pearl of Trawangan was superb!!!

We booked this hotel last minute when we needed to save our honeymoon after some negative experiences in Ubud. Originally I didn't have it on our agenda because I didn't think it was worth the trek to the Gilis... boy, I was wrong! I wish we stayed for at least 2 weeks because I was in bliss and having a blast!
