I really hope that my review can give the owners some encouragement to use the great amount of money that they will probably be making during the Bali high season to urgently start planning some renovations at this place!
The rooms are far away from what is shown on the photos. Walls / curtains / bathroom are covered in mould, dust all over the furniture, cheap / uncomfortable bed, shower had no hot water, the tap water stinks and probably the most disgusting...the stained towels and bedsheets that were put in my room prior to check in time. They got replaced after I've complained, however it is unacceptable that the housekeeper went ahead in making the bed with those bedsheets. Outside area also urgently needs some maintenance - floors are extremely dirty and the outside bins were left overflowing with food overnight. Not a good impression at all for whoever is checking in.
Staff are generally kind and helpful however the reception staff are disorganised and often seem to be lost with even very simple requests. Not a language barrier here as the reception staff fully understands and speaks English - the issue here it's probably more like a lack of guidance / training coming from a management level.
This place has a great potential to be one of the best places to stay in Uluwatu due to the excellent location (great restaurants / beach close by) and tours / surf packages offered. However, it feels like there is a lot of improvement to make here. Not sure if the owner is around much, but I hope this review gets to him somehow.
I've been travelling Indonesia for the last 2 months and I've stayed at lots of cheap (but clean) places and all I can say is that there is no excuse for lack of cleanliness. Bambora Surf Camp has a huge amount of staff working at the place on a daily basis, so their focus could be making sure that this place is better presented / maintained for the guests instead of spending more time chatting between themselves / having a good time sitting around the reception area.
Be also aware that there are a lot of parties happening in the area so this means loud music almost every night - if you are looking for a peaceful place to stay / if you have an early routine this is definitely not the place for you (as it wasn't for me).
If all the points above wouldn't bother you much / if you need an emergency place to stay for a night - go for it and good luck. For an extra couple of $ you would get a much better place to stay at the same area.
This place is actually very expensive for what you get - definitely not...
Read moreIf you're looking for a place to stay with comfortable beds, dark rooms (if you like to sleep in), and Netflix, this hotel could be a good option. We stayed in the room with 4 single beds because we have 2 young kids and they loved it. Additionally, there are plenty of shops, cafes, and a beach all within walking distance.
For families with kids, we recommend checking out the kids club at Habitat Village Uluwatu which is about 50m down the road and costs 150k per child per day. Our kids loved it there. The staff were also happy to assist with pick-up and drop-off for a reasonable price, and they have scooters available from 80k/day. The pool is small but nice.
However, there were some cons to our stay. The room was very dated and not very clean when we arrived. It was also very basic, with no fridge, desk/shelving, or even a towel hook. Additionally, there was no daily room service. The toilet stunk of sewage and all the drains were blocked, which meant that the water in the bathroom sink and shower took about 10 minutes to go down. The air-conditioner only just kept our room cold, but it wasn't that hot when we stayed either. The staff, although nice, didn't understand much English and didn't communicate to each other very well. Lastly, the concrete pathways around the entire place are very slippery when wet, so be careful.
Overall, we think this hotel could be a good option if you're young, a couple, or with a group of friends and don't care about all the basics you'd get at most places. However, it's worth noting that the rooms could use some...
Read moreThe room was consistently damp and smelt like mould with mould in the bathroom and centipede bugs all around. It was quite dirty. They then messed up my surf lesson booking 3x, and when they finally booked it in as asked they then didn’t tell the instructor I was an intermediate and bringing my own surfboard after I asked them specifically to confirm this with him and that I was not a beginner. The instructor then couldn’t take me out when he arrived that day as he didn’t have a board rack and the conditions weren’t suited. Worst of all, on checkout they escorted me to back to my room and pointed at a mud mark on the sheet and then tried to charge us 400k before even putting the sheets in the wash (mind you it had been raining for 3 days). I refused to pay this as it will easily come out in the washing machine. It was horrible customer service and felt very aggressive and unfriendly. It made me question whether they actually wash their quilt covers after every customer to be making such a fuss as a hotel. The breakfast was not good and an extra cost. Apart from that it’s a good location and a nice pool area. I am not sure why with the amount of staff they have they don’t keep the rooms in a better and cleaner condition. The place has a lot of potential but right now I wouldn’t...
