We travelled from Seminyak specifically to visit Ours Uluwatu after dining at Bartolo the night before. The café had looked promising online, and we had curated our entire day around visiting all three Ours locations — starting with lunch here, drinks at AMA, and potentially dinner at their Japanese supper club.
What we experienced instead was nothing short of humiliating, discriminatory, and completely unacceptable.
Upon entering, we were seated by a female staff member who immediately questioned a bottle we were carrying — containing a medical-grade rehydration solution. We clearly explained that it would not be consumed during our visit. Moments later, a male staff member named Jeffrey approached us again to repeat the same interrogation — this time more sternly and with no effort to listen or de-escalate.
The situation became even more disturbing when we witnessed a group of white Australians being welcomed shortly after us. They had their own water bottle placed visibly on the table — not only were they not questioned, but the same staff member smiled and greeted them warmly. The contrast in treatment was glaring. It was beyond inconsistent — it was targeted.
Jeffrey’s handling of the situation made things worse. Instead of exercising even the most basic understanding of customer service or conflict resolution, he repeatedly told us “Thank you for leaving”, making it clear we were no longer welcome, despite our calm and reasonable explanation. It felt like we were being pushed out solely based on prejudice.
This was not just poor service — it was discriminatory, insensitive, and completely unprofessional. We left feeling insulted and deeply let down. Not only will we never return to Ours Uluwatu, but we will be advising others — especially travellers of colour — to think twice before visiting a place where customer service appears to depend on the colour...
Read moreAbsolutely abysmal is the only comment I have, wouldn’t recommend to anyone. The reviews are half decent as they offer 5% to leave a review. Which covers up how pathetic and poor of a restaurant it is. We arrived as a walk in. Sat at the bar and ordered and then moved to a table where we waited 50 minutes for starters which then came as the wrong main dish order. Waiter didn’t take responsibility which was a theme of the evening. They had forgotten our starters and no one realised a table sitting there with no food for 50 minutes. We then got our starters which were actually reasonable. Then our mains came. Carbonara was fine. The fish was horrendous and undercooked. When mentioned to the waiter he said it was wrong. As we weren’t local we didn’t know how it should be served so gave him the benefit of the doubt which was foolish on our part to trust him again. The dish came back, exact same dish I may add. And he said the chefs said it was just that particular dish. Which is ridiculous. At this point we had confirmed it was game over. Then 3 different wait staff spoke to us before the manager approached us which should have been done long before. One offered us a coffee and all 3 asked why we said nothing. Which we did. The manager who seemed inexperienced and had very little authority offered us 50% off the fish dish. Which is absolutely shameful. For an experience like that. They rushed to take the payment and forced us to complain when it was too late to do anything. I’m in disbelief and to be honest shocked at how poor that experience was. She even had the audacity to try invite us back the next day which is ridiculous. Why on Earth would we want to come back. I firmly stand that no one should ever come here. And if you are thinking of it. Don’t make our mistake and read all...
Read moreThe awful service I had at this café. When I first arrived at this café, it was difficult to find parking since there was a loaded car unloading raw materials (which I understand); however, there was no security guarding the car, so I had to turn it over.
Security eventually made a grumpy face; I should have made such an expression 🫠 Finally, we were instructed to park some distance from the café, near their spa.
But, unfortunately, he had no intention of parking my vehicle; the position still protrudes into the middle of the road. Then he remained with his unclean face; oh my God, what was wrong with this person?
When I walked into the restaurant, there was no warm greeting; I was surprised! Is it since I am a local who wears a hijab and is considered incapable? Haha 😄
What was even more shocking was that when I made the transaction, I was the only local who used card tap payments, despite the cashier's claim that only foreigners did so (don’t pass judgement from the outside, dude 🤪)
Okay, back to the assessment of this café; the concept is open air, so it gets a little hot, but not the toilet (there is an air conditioner, but there are only two).
I ordered several menus for lunch: 5/5 Peanut Butter Protein— perfect! 5/5 Ours Stroganoff with Chicken 4/5 Lemon Butter Salmon Pasta— the lemon zest flavor was too overwhelming. 5/5 Lemon Iced Tea— standard. 5/5 Peppermint Ice Tea— standard. 5/5 Lemongrass Ice Tea— standard.
I enjoy all of the food but dislike the service, so I would reconsider returning...
